Abstract
603,792. Aircraft landing wheels. DAVIS, W. A. (St. John's Industries Co., Ltd.). Aug. 25, 1945, No. 21876. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 10, 1946.] [Class 4] A positively driven aircraft landing wheel is provided with a one-way clutch between the wheel and a central axle driven by an hydraulic motor. The hub 2 carries a loosely-fitting axle housing 5 secured to the wheel support 6 which also carries a fluid pressure turbine 7 described in Specification 603,791. A cap 10 attached to a wheel disc 3 carries a cup 11 into which extends a cylindrical block 12 carried by the driving shaft 8. Pawls carried by the cup 11 engage notches in the block 12, whereby the wheel, if rotating faster than the turbine, may overrun it.
