Abstract

576,587. Hydraulic couplings. CLEVELAND, F. J. (Hydraulic Brake Co.). Aug. 18, 1943, No. 13480. [Class 69 (ii)] The impeller 30 of a hydraulic coupling rotates with the driving shaft 12 and is axially movable thereon towards the runner 58 upon increase in resistance to rotation of the impeller, and away from the runner when the latter overruns the impeller. The impeller is supported on a screw-thread 22 on the driving shaft and normally pressed away from the runner, carried by the driven shaft 50, by springs 46. A housing 66 carried by the runner encloses the impeller and has a liquid seal engagement 70 with the driving shaft.
