Abstract

563,289. Differential mechanism. THORNTON TANDEM CO. Nov. 30; 1942, No. 17011. Convention date, June 2, 1942. [Class 80 (ii)] A driving differential housing 12 is splined to two members 16 having clutch teeth 19 engaging clutch teeth 20 on driven clutch members 17 keyed to the driven shafts 10, 11. Circumferential play exists between the teeth 19, 20. The members 16 are pressed apart by a spring 28 and are associated with cam members 18 having teeth 18<1> engaging cam teeth 21 on the clutch members 17. The cam members 18 are also splined to a sleeve 22. If one driven shaft tends to overrun the camming action between the corresponding teeth 18<1>, 21, causes disengagement of the corresponding clutch teeth 19, 20. The teeth 18<1>, 21, are curved radially to diminish friction. Specification 566,565 is referred to.
