Abstract

569,610. Friction clutches. CROFT, A. July 14, 1943, No. 11447. [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch is actuated by radial movement of balls 3 located between inclined faces 4, 5 on a collar 6 and on a slidable sleeve 15 having splined thereto a sleeve 16 which transmits the actuating movement to the clutch friction faces. Springs 17 are located between the sleeves 15, 16, and the relative axial movement of the sleeves is limited by an abutment 19 on one of the sleeves. The balls 3 are actuated by a cam face on a slidable sleeve 1. Clutch disengaging springs 24 are arranged between the driving sleeve 7 carrying the driving plates of the clutch and the sleeve 15. The position of the normally fixed collar on the sleeve 7 is adjustable. In the case of a conical clutch, one of the conical faces is formed integrally with the sleeve 16.
