Abstract
595,725. Cone clutches. TAREX SOC. ANON. Jan. 13, 1945, No. 1086. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1943. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XXV] In a cone friction clutch of the kind in which rotational movement of an adjusting ring on one clutch member causes axial movement of the associated friction surface to take up wear, combined locking and driving means for the adjusting ring are provided comprising a radially outwardly spring-projected locking member which in projected position locks together the ring and clutch member and in retracted position is rotatable to drive the ring. As shown, a member 7 carrying one friction surface 8 is splined to its supporting clutch member 2 and is in screwed or other engagement with an adjusting ring 5 axially fixed but rotatable in the member 2. A pinion 11 mounted in a radial seating 14 in the member 2 always engages driving teeth 12 on the end face of the ring 5 and is normally spring pressed to engage also locking projections or teeth 17 in the outer end of the seating 14. The pinion 11 is pressed inwards clear of the teeth 17 and rotated to drive the ring 5 by tool engaging an internal hexagon 18.
