Abstract

738,458. Dog-clutches. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Sept. 30, 1953 [Oct. 2, 1952], No. 26860/53. Class 80 (2). Clutch member 16 splined at 17 to a sleeve 18 fixed to a shaft 10 has dogs 15, 19 engageable respectively with dogs 14, 20 on members 13, 22. The clutch teeth are shaped so that the driving torque tends to disengage the clutch. Balls 24, 25 in radial bores 26, 27 of member 16, protrude into grooves 28, 29 of a clutchactuating sleeve 23. On movement of sleeve 23 to the left, ball 24 drops into a groove 30, in the sleeve 18, and the clutch is locked against disengagement. Ball 25 prevents further movement of the sleeve 23 to the left. Similarly, on moving sleeve 23 to the right, ball 25 drops into a slot 31 in the sleeve 18 and locks the clutch. Ball 24 prevents further movement of sleeve 23 to the right. Member 13, 22 may be parts of a reverse drive or parking lock respectively.
