Abstract
1,159,569. Positive clutches. BORGWARNER CORP. 11 Nov., 1966, No. 50746/66. Heading F2C. In a double positive clutch having a sleeve 12 internally splined at 26, 27 to a hub 11 and axially slidable thereon into engagement with external teeth 17, 18 on gears 13, 14, the flanks of the splines 26 of the sleeve 12 are formed with teeth 30 which engage corresponding teeth 33 on the flanks of the teeth 17, 18 as splines 27 under load to prevent axial movement and thus declutching of the sleeve 12 during drive. The teeth 30, 33 may, as shown, have a V-shaped section or may, Fig. 5 (not shown), have a square section. The clutch is provided with friction synchronizing rings 15, 16. As shown the teeth 33 are formed on the flanks of the teeth 17, 18 but may Figs. 6-8 (not shown) be formed on the flanks of the splines (27) of the hub (11).
