594,904. Damped resilient drives; friction clutches and couplings. HINDMARCH, T. May 4, 1945, No. 11401. [Class 80(ii)] A resilient coupling, e.g. of the kind comprising circumferential helical springs b<SP>2</SP> carried in recesses in discs b, c splined on a driven (or driving) shaft f, and engaging lugs i on a casing a secured to a driving (or driven) shaft d, or of the kind having blade springs engaging slots in the members, is combined in parallel, for a damped resilient drive, with a friction coupling, comprising the splined discs b, c, which are moved oppositely by adjustable hydraulic pressure into frictional engagement with the casing a. The frictionally engaging surfaces have complementary concentric conical face-rings, as shown, and adjustable hydraulic engaging - pressure is supplied through a pipe h. The springs b<SP>2</SP> may be arranged at the inner periphery of the friction surfaces instead of at the outer, as shown. The casing a may be internally toothed to engage a driving gear-wheel, the shafts may be parallel or inclined, and the resilient and friction couplings may be arranged on separate pairs of shafts. Additional resilient and/or friction couplings may be arranged in parallel.
