Abstract

[Also in Group XXXI] A tractor power take-off shaft 19 is driven from a gear 15 having rim teeth 14 with which a spur pinion 15, slidable upon a splined shaft 12, may be brought into engagement, the shaft 12 being coupled by a splined sleeve 11 to a quill shaft 10 upon which one plate of a " dual clutch," not shown, is splined, the other plate of the clutch being mounted upon a splined sleeve which surrounds the adjacent end of the quill shaft 10 and which is adapted to transmit the engine drive to the vehicle transmission gearing, the arrangement being such that one pressure upon the dual clutch interrupts the drive to the transmission gear and additional pressure interrupts the drive to the shaft 10. The gear 15 is rotatably mounted upon a hub 18 splined to the shaft 19, there being plates 21 of a friction clutch splined to the gear 15 and held in frictional engagement with plates 22 splined to the hub 28 by the pressure of a " belleville " washer 24 upon a plate 25 thereby constituting a slip coupling which slips when a predetermined torque is exceeded-determined by the pressure of the " belleville " washer 24 which may be replaced by a plurality of such washers either concentrically arranged or disposed on the circumference of a circle concentric with the hub 18, or by a lock-nut. An additional device comprising a belt driving pulley may be driven from the gear 15 by the engagement of a bevel pinion on the pulley shaft with bevel teeth 17. Oil seals 28 are provided.
