944,497. Variable-speed friction gear. A.B.G. SOC. ARIES, LA BOUGIE B.G. ET S.F.E.D.R. REUNIES. June 6, 1962 [June 8, 1961; Oct. 31, 1961], No. 21973/62. Heading F2D. A variable-speed friction gear comprising conical driving discs 4, 5, 6, axially slidable on splines 2 on the driving shaft 1, co-operating with interpenetrating discs 10, 11, 12 splined within a drum 7 rigid with the driven shaft 20 and having means 25 for pressing the stack of discs together and for moving the driving shaft radially, has lubricating passages 33 extending from a bore 32 in the driving shaft 1 to the splines 2. The lubricant is directed along the disc faces by flexible notched-edge channelsection rings 35 and by oblique passages 40 at the end of the driving shaft. A flexible deflector ring may 37 be fitted between the outer disc 4 and the shaft 1.
