Abstract
816,893. Friction clutches. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. July 8, 1957 [July 12, 1956], No. 21596/57. Addition to 806,184. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] The combined hydrodynamic torque converter and friction clutch of the parent Specification, comprising a pump wheel 3 and an. axially slidable turbine wheel 4 carrying friction linings 14, 15 engaged with each other for mechanical transmission of power by springs 19 and held apart by the pressure of the oil between the wheels when the torque converter is working, is modified by locating an axially slidable coupling plate 17 in splines 18 in a surrounding driving cover 2, a friction lining 16 on the turbine engaging the coupling plate for mechanical transmission of power. When oil pressure acts between the pump and turbine 3, 4 to separate the friction linings 14, 15, it simultaneously acts upon the coupling plate 17 to move it leftwards away from the lining 16. Oil under pressure may be supplied to the space containing the springs 19 to assist the engagement of the friction linings for mechanical power transmission.
