Abstract

694,456. Friction clutches. SUBERKRUB, F. Dec. 29, 1950, No. 31659/50. Class 80 (ii). A gear rim 3, rotatably mounted on end plates 4, encloses a clutch having two sets of laminar discs the members of which are frictionally engaged by fluid pressure acting on an annular piston 11 and its cylinder 18 which, together with the discs, are arranged around a shaft 1. Alternate discs 7, 8 are splined at 6 to the gear rim 3 and at 9 to the shaft 1, the piston and cylinder transmitting no torque. A plurality of coil springs 15 act between the heads of bolts 16, which are fastened to the inside of the head of the cylinder 18, and abutments on the piston 11 which is thereby retracted into the cylinder when the fluid pressure is released. Abutment members 13 are rigidly secured to the shaft 1. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), a piston acts on a single set of laminar discs its cylinder being rigidly fixed to the shaft.
