Abstract

1370496 Clutch/brake combination; friction clutches; full-face disc brakes ORTLINGHAUS Gebr 24 Jan 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 3314/72 Headings F2L F2C and F2E A clutch/brake combination for a press or cutter comprises a hub 1 to be driven, a clutch/ brake plate 14 biased by springs 13 into engagement with a member 35 held against rotation for braking, and a driving member 33 with which the plate 14 engages (through friction surfaces) to drive the hub 1 when pneumatic pressure is supplied to the space 42 to move a piston 5. The clutch/brake plate 14 is slidable on pins 9 which pass through apertures in an annular ring 15 secured by webs 141 to the outer part of the plate 14, the pins also passing through the piston 5, the springs 13 acting between the ring 15 and a flange 2 of the hub, a counter abutment 26 for the clutch/brake plate 14 being secured to this hub flange, an opposite flange 3 supporting the other counterabutment 22. Cooling fins 30, 30<SP>1</SP>, 29, 29<SP>1</SP> are provided on the outside, with passages 27, 28, and 31, and a cooling fin 32 on the plate 14, also aiding air circulation through the device.
