Abstract

22,457. Bennis, A. W. Oct. 6. Securing pulleys on shafts; shaft couplings. -Relates to frictional slipping devices for securing pulleys &c. to s h a f t s, applicable to automatic chain - grate and other stokers. Friction surfaces 8 of copper-sewn asbestos are carried on levers 5 pivoted on spider arms 4 on a sleeve 3 keyed to the shaft 2, and engage a flange 13 carried by a pulley 1. Springs 11, adjusted by a wheel 9 screwing on the sleeve 3, maintain the drive until a predetermined resistance is encountered, whereupon the surfaces slip. The wheel 9 carries a flange 10 to assist in protecting the working parts from dust and oil. The levers 5 may be arranged to act radially inwards against the outside of a flange on the pulley.
