844,504. Friction clutches; gearing for stopping and starting machinery. DEMAG A.G. April 16, 1958 [April 20, 1957], No. 12175/58. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXV] Driving machinery for mining-apparatus comprises a squirrel-cage electric motor 1 or the like upon the shaft 2 of which is secured a sleeve 3 carrying axially slidably a sleeve 6, masses 4 moving radially outwards under the influence of centrifugal force when the motor is started to slide the sleeve against the bias of a spring 8 so that a frusto-conical clutch disc 7 fast therewith engages a co-operating clutch surface 9 on a driven member, which is formed with a frustoconical brake surface 10 biased to engage a corresponding brake surface 12 on a surrounding casing 13 by a spring 11, increasing speed of rotation of the motor urging the clutch disc 7 further to the right to disengage the brake 10, 11 and transmit drive to a final output shaft. In Fig. 2 (not shown), (see Group XXXV), two electric motors drive through individual clutchbrake combinations according-to the invention to the sun-gear and the ring-gear of a planetary train, the planet carrier of which forms the final output member.
