Abstract

722,973. Centrifugal clutches. MERZ, F., [trading as MERZ-WERKE]. Nov. 18, 1952 [Oct. 21, 1952], No. 29161/52. Class 80 (2). A centrifugal clutch, particularly for squirrelcage motors, comprises a clutch shoe 3 guided on a member 2 secured to the motor shaft 1 and movable centrifugally outwards into engagement with a driven pulley 19, such outward movement being prevented until a pin 17 attached to a member 8 and extending through the member 2 and shoe 3 is moved axially, so as to bring a recess 16 in the pin under the shoe, by centrifugal balls acting between the inclined ends of the members 2, 8. The axial movement is damped by a spring-loaded piston 10 in a cylinder 12 the outlet from which is adjustable by a needle valve 13.
