754.280. Expanding-pulleys. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. June 22. 1954 [Aug. 8, 1953], No. 18321/54. Class 80(2) In a V-belt pulley with one or both of the cheeks 14, 15 moved axially by centrifugal means so as to vary the effective diameter of the pulley in accordance with the speed, means are provided for temporarily arresting the movement at one or more predetermined speeds. In Fig. 1, wherein centrifugal balls 22 effect the movement, recesses 24, 25 serve to restrain the balls at certain speeds. In Fig. 3, centrifugal weights 26 pivoted on the slidable flange 14 act on a collar 29 of the shaft 31, to which the flange 15 is fixed, and a spring-loaded ball catch 32 cooperates with recesses 33 in the shaft 31; or catches may be fitted in the flange 14 to co-operate with recesses in the weights 26. In Fig. 5, the catch is a spring-loaded pivoted centrifugal weight 34.
