Abstract

798,357. Variable speed gearing. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Jan. 24,1957 [Jan. 24, 1956], No. 2643/57. Class 80 (2). An expanding pulley combined with a centrifugal clutch for autocycles wherein one flange only of the pulley is responsible for driving the belt, has the other flange freely mounted and under the influence of centrifugally acting balls automatically varying the effective diameter. A sleeve 15 keyed to the output shaft 1 of an autocycle carries a casing 2, transmitting rotation to a plate 5, 6 through the centrifugal clutch 3, 4. The driving flange 8 of the pulley is secured to a sleeve 13, journalled on the shaft 1 and secured to the plate 5, 6 through the intermediary of the side plate 17 and the cross bars 18. The movable flange 7, mounted freely on the sleeve 13, is rotated solely by the adhesion of the belt 9 and carries centrifugal balls 10 engaging the plate 5, 6 which automatically vary the effective diameter of the pulley. Specifications 710,991 and 753,117 are referred to.
