Abstract

1,130,864. Change speed gears; friction Clutches. ENGINS MATRA. 25 April, 1966 [13 July, 1965], No. 17949/66. Headings F2C and F2D. [Also in Division D1] A two-speed gear for a washing machine comprises a driven pulley 190 fast with an axially movable clutch-plate 178 which is urged by springs 193 into frictional engagement with a disc 185 on a driving shaft 160 for high speed drive and for low speed drive is moved left, by energizing a stationary electromagnet 169, into engagement with a disc 181 driven from the shaft 160 through a belt or spur reduction gear 162, 163, 164, 166, 167, 168. The clutch-plate 178 is connected to the pulley 190 by tangential straps and the compression of the springs 193 may be adjusted by screws 177 to adjust the engaging pressure between the plate 178 and disc 185 and thus the torque transmitted therebetween. The plate 178 is fast with an armature ring 174. The driving electric motor 161 may be a two speed motor to provide a total of four output speeds. In Figs. 1-4 (not shown), the belt reduction gear is replaced by a spur gear.
