Abstract

1458244 Change-speed gear IB MEI SpA 29 Oct 1974 [30 Oct 1973] 46784/74 Heading F2D [Also in Division D1] A washing machine has a two-speed speedchange epicyclic gear for washing and spinning. A pole-changing motor drives a shaft 3 on which is fixed a hub 15 supporting three pivots 14 and three planet wheels 12. A driving disc 5 is freely rotatable about the shaft, and keyed to it is a coupling part 20 having friction clutch faces 21 for engaging the other part of the housing, which includes a pulley wheel 8 and is also freely rotatable about the shaft. The driving disc 5 cannot move axially, but the coupling part has limited axial movement, and is biased to engage the driven part 7 by spiral springs 24 acting between the disc 5 and a ring 23 which presses against teeth 22 on the coupling member. In this position rotation of the shaft causes the planet wheels to rotate the complete housing. When an electromagnet 28 is energized the coupling part is disengaged from the driven part and is held stationary against the magnet. The disc 5 is thus stationary and the planet wheels run round the disc and drive the housing at double the speed of the shaft. By changing the motor speeds also four speed in all may be obtained.
