Abstract
949,560. Variable-speed gears. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 14, 1961], No. 43098/62. Heading F2D. In an expanding pulley belt gear for an autocycle wherein the flanges 30, 31 of a driven pulley 14 are normally urged together by a spring 38, means are provided to overcome the spring action and move the flanges 30, 31 apart to disconnect the drive whereupon the belt 15 slips on a support drum 45 fast with one flange 31. As shown, a hub 44 of the axially fixed flange 31 is fast with a driven shaft 18 to which a hub 36 of the axially movable flange 30 is keyed. The flange 30 is connected by arms 41, which pass through holes 42 in the fixed flange 31, with a sleeve 40 that is normally urged to the left by the spring 38. To disconnect the drive the flange 30 and sleeve 40 are moved right against the action of the spring 38 by a nut 28. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the axially movable flange is nearest the nut 28 which engages a threaded part of the driven shaft 18 and the spring acts between the nut and axially movable flange. To disconnect the drive the spring pressure is released to allow axial separation of the flanges. As shown, the pulley 14 is driven by the belt 15 from a centrifugally controlled driving pulley 13 and the driven shaft 18 drives the rear wheel 1 through a reduction gear 16, 17.
