1290199 Expanding-pulley gear; friction clutches C G HARD AF SEGERSTAD 12 Jan 1970 [13 Jan 1969] 1374/70 Heading F2D An automatic centrifugally operated expanding V-belt pulley gear comprises one or more centrifugally responsive chains 3 or links (62, 63) (Fig. 3, not shown) connected at their ends to an axially fixed member 2 and an axially movable member 1 which, via push rods 9, 10 passing through the fixed member 2 axially moves a pulley flange 4 for ratio variation. As shown the movable member 1 is, at low speeds, spring urged at 24 outwardly, the centrifugal effect of the chains 3 at higher speeds progressively overcoming the spring 24 to inwardly move the pulley flange 4 via the push rods 9, 10, which push rods may be axially variable in length (Figs. 4, 5 and 6) to permit relative axial adjustment of the fixed and movable members 2, 1 and hence adjustment of the initial centrifugally induced axial loading.
