Abstract

A Una película soplada en caliente coextruida con al menos tres capas, comprendiendo la película una capa de núcleo intercalada entre dos capas externas, teniendo la película un valor de turbidez de menos del 15 %, un módulo secante al 2% mayor de 350 MPa (50.000 psi) y una retracción en la dirección transversal (CD) mayor del 0 %, en donde: a. la capa del núcleo se selecciona del grupo que consiste en polietileno de alta densidad con una densidad de 0,941 g/cm3 a 0,965 g/cm3, una mezcla de polietileno de baja densidad y polietileno de alta densidad con una densidad de 0,941 g/cm3 a 0,965 g/cm3, y copolímero de cíclico-olefina; y, b. las capas externas, que pueden ser iguales o diferentes, se seleccionan del grupo que consiste en polietileno de baja densidad, copolímero de cíclico-olefina, y copolímero aleatorio de polipropileno, a condición de que las capas externas estén desprovistas de resina de polietileno homogéneamente ramificado preparado con un catalizador de sitio único.

En la formación de películas sopladas, un material fundido entra a una boquilla con forma de anillo bien por la parte inferior o por el lateral de la boquilla. El material fundido se fuerza a través de surcos helicoidales alrededor de la superficie de un mandril dentro de la boquilla y se extruye a través de la abertura de la boquilla como un tubo de pared gruesa. El tubo se expande en una burbuja del diámetro deseado y el espesor correspondientemente disminuido como se describió previamente.
La formación de las películas sopladas coextruidas se conoce en la técnica y es aplicable a la presente invención. Los sistemas de coextrusión para preparar películas de múltiples capas emplean al menos dos extrusoras que alimentan a un ensamblaje de boquilla común. La cantidad de extrusoras depende de la cantidad de materiales diferentes que comprenden la película coextruida. Para cada material diferente, ventajosamente se usa una extrusora diferente. Por lo tanto, una coextrusión de cinco capas puede requerir hasta cinco extrusoras, aunque se pueden usar menos si dos o mas de las capas están hechas del mismo material.
Las boquillas de coextrusión se usan para conformar películas sopladas coextruidas. Tienen múltiples mandriles que alimentan las diferentes corrientes de masa fundida al reborde circular de la boquilla. Cuando se emplean bloques de alimentación para apilar las capas de material fundido de dos o más extrusoras, la corriente de material fundido de múltiples capas resultante se alimenta luego a la boquilla de la película.
Una característica distintiva de la presente invención es la falta de post-biorientación, tal como la orientación por doble burbuja o por tensor-bastidor.
La prueba de la retracción se lleva a cabo por inmersión en un baño de aceite caliente mantenido a una temperatura de al menos 10 °C por encima del punto de fusión de la capa de mayor punto de fusión durante al menos 30 segundos.

Se produjeron películas de 5 capas de alta claridad y alta rigidez en una línea de película soplada de coextrusión convencional y sin post-biorientación. Todas las películas tenían una estructura de película A/B/C/B/A. Las capas de las películas tenían los componentes y porcentajes (con respecto al espesor total de la película) como se muestra en la Tabla II. Todas las películas tenían un espesor total de 38,1 µm (1,5 milésimas de pulgada).
Como se muestra en la Tabla II, los Ejemplos 5-10 ilustran que se pueden hacer películas de alta claridad y alta rigidez por medio de la presente invención sin recurrir a procesos de post-biorientación.
