- TECHNISCHES GEBIET
- Diese Erfindung betrifft wie in Anspruch 1 beanspruchte photoleitende Elemente, die verwendet werden, um elektrostatische Bilder zu erzeugen. Solche Bilder werden durch Auftragen von geladenem Toner auf die elektrostatische Oberfläche sichtbar oder stabil gemacht.
- HINTERGRUND DER ERFINDUNG
- Diese Erfindung verwendet die innige Mischung aus Oxotitanylphthalocyanin in der X-Form und/oder der Y-Form und Titandioxid als das lichtempfindliche Material eines photoleitenden Elements. Diese Mischung sorgt für einen verbesserten Dunkelzerfall und eine verbesserte Steuerung der Empfindlichkeit. Sowohl Oxotitanylphthalocyanin als auch Titandioxid sind bekannte Photoleiter, es ist jedoch nicht bekannt, daß sie, in Kombination, eine außergewöhnliche Funktion besitzen. Wie gut bekannt ist, unterscheiden sich die X-Form und die Y-Form des Materials durch ihre Kristallstruktur voneinander sowie von anderen Kristallformen von Oxotitanylphthalocyanin, wie es durch ihre unterschiedlichen Röntgenbeugungsmuster bewiesen wird. Sie werden oft als "Pigmente" bezeichnet, selbst wenn sie als Photoleiter verwendet werden.
- Die Zugabe von Aluminiumoxid zu metallfreiem Phthalocyanin und Vanadylphthalocyanin zur Erhöhung der Photoleitfähigkeit wird von Saito et al. in einem Artikel mit dem Titel "Photocarrier Generation Process of Phthalocyanine Particles Dispersed in a Polymer: Effects of Pigment Particle Size, Polymer Matrix and Addition of Fine c-Alumina Particles", in Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, Band 30, Nr. 7A, Juli 1991, S. L 1182-L 1185, berichtet.
- Phthalocyaningrün und Phthalocyaninblau (keines von beiden ist eine X-Form oder Y-Form von Phthalocyanin) werden zusammen mit Titandioxid in den US-Patenten Nr. 5 069 992 von Leyrer et al., 4 268 597 von Klavan et al. und 4 202 620 von Klavan et al. verwendet. Phthalocyanin und Titan werden in getrennten Migrationsschichten in US-Patent Nr. 3 982 939 von Bean eingesetzt. Das US-Patent Nr. 3 899 329 von Bean et al. offenbart lichtempfindliche Elemente, die aus einer Mischung aus photoleitenden Materialien bestehen, jedoch keine einzigartige, zuvor nicht verwendete Kombination aus bekannten photoleitenden Materialien, wie z.B. Oxotitanylphthalocyanin in X-Form oder Y-Form und Titandioxid, um verbesserte Photoleiteigenschaften zu erzielen.
- OFFENBARUNG DER ERFINDUNG
- Zwischen 1 und 35 Gewichtsteile Titandioxid werden zu 100 Gewichtsteilen Oxotitanylphthalocyanin in X-Form oder Y-Form zusammen mit 5000 Gewichtsteilen Lösungsmittel (50:50 Methylethylketon:Cyclohexanon) zugegeben, und die Mischung wird unter Verwendung herkömmlicher Mittel, zum Beispiel eines Farbschüttlers, dispergiert. Die resultierende Mischung wird in einem Standard-Harzbinder als Ladungserzeugungsschicht auf einer leitenden Oberfläche, zum Beispiel der anodisierten Oberfläche einer Aluminiumtrommel, aufgetragen und dann mit einer Ladungstransportschicht überzogen, um ein photoleitendes Element (typischerweise eine Trommel oder ein Band) zu bilden, in dem elektrostatische Bilder durch elektrostatische Aufladung des photoleitenden Elements und anschließende Entladung durch Licht in Form des Bildes gebildet werden.
- Der resultierende Photoleiter weist einen bedeutend verbesserten Dunkelzerfall auf, und seine Empfindlichkeit kann durch richtige Auswahl des Phthalocyanin-Polymorphs gesteuert werden.
- KURZE BESCHREIBUNG DER ZEICHNUNGEN
- Die Details dieser Erfindung werden in Zusammenhang mit den begleitenden Zeichnungen beschrieben, wobei

- Der Dunkelzerfall, d.h. die Änderung der Oberflächenspannung mit der Zeit bei einem Photoleiter, nachdem dieser aufgeladen wurde, jedoch vor der Lichteinwirkung, ist eine wichtige Eigenschaft von Photoleitern. Ein niedriger Wert ist wünschenswert, da er Leistungsstabilität bedeutet.
1 zeigt den Dunkelzerfall eines Photoleiters, der ausschließlich mit Oxotitanylphthalocyanin in Y-Form gefertigt wurde, und sie zeigt auch den des gleichen Oxotitanylphthalocyanins in Y-Form, das innig mit 10 Gew.-% Titandioxid vermischt wurde, beide in dem gleichen Harzbinder. In1 ist der Dunkelzerfall als Änderung der Spannung für die Standard-Y-Form alleine und für die Mischung gezeigt. Bei jedem Vergleich ist die Untere des Kurvenpaares die Mischung.2 ist ähnlich wie1 , wobei das Oxotitanylphthalocyanin X-Form besitzt. Vergleiche werden bei ähnlichen optischen Dichten gezogen, was die Phthalocyaninkonzentration als Variable entfernt, da die Vergleiche zwischen Proben mit der gleichen Anzahl von Phthalocyaninmolekülen an den beobachteten Stellen gezogen werden. Die Daten zeigen, daß, zu allen gemessenen Zeiten, der Dunkelzerfall in den titandioxidhaltigen Proben um 15 bis 40 Prozent reduziert ist. Dies ist keine Funktion der Empfindlichkeit (wie es unmittelbar nachstehend erörtert wird), da die Proben mit der gleichen optischen Dichte in Art und Umfang sehr ähnlich entladen werden. - Die Empfindlichkeit ist das Ausmaß der Entladung als Reaktion auf Lichtenergie, welche die Lichtenergiemenge ist, die zur Entladung des Photoleiteroberflächenpotentials auf einen bestimmten vorher festgelegten Wert notwendig ist.
3 veranschaulicht beobachtete Daten, die zeigen, daß der Einbau von Titandioxid in Kombination mit verschiedenen Oxophthalocyaninen in Y-Form und X-Form eine bedeutende Flexibilität bei der Fähigkeit, die Photoleiterempfindlichkeit einzustellen oder zu "tunen", zur Verfügung stellt. Die Empfindlichkeit kann von schneller als die Standardprobe bis langsamer eingestellt werden (X-Form, ausgefällt mit 10% Titandioxid, kein Wasser, mit einer optischen Dichte von 1,49, ist empfindlicher (schneller) als die Standard-X-Form, kein Wasser, mit einer optischen Dichte von 1,48, die wiederum schneller ist als die X-Form, gerührt mit 10% Titandioxid, kein Wasser, mit einer optischen Dichte von 1,58). Im Falle des Oxotitanylphthalocyanins in X-Form beeinflußt die Art und Weise der Zugabe von Titandioxid die Empfindlichkeit:
Die Empfindlichkeit ist typischerweise höher, wenn Titandioxid während des Säureschlämmschrittes zugegeben wird, als wenn Titandioxid einfach zu der X-Form hinzugegeben wird. Das Säureschlämmverfahren in Gegenwart von Titandioxid verläuft folgendermaßen: Das Oxotitanylphthalocyanin in X-Form wird in einer Dichlormethan/Trifluoressigsäure-Mischung (4:1, bezogen auf das Volumen) gelöst. Die Lösung wird anschließend rasch unter Rühren zu einer Wasser/Methanol-Mischung (1:1, bezogen auf das Volumen), die Titandioxid enthält, zugegeben. Die Ausfällung des X-Form-Pigments findet in diesem Fall in Gegenwart von Titandioxid statt. - Schnell und langsam beziehen sich auf die Form (Steigung) der Spannungs-Bestrahlungs-Kurve. Ein schneller Photoleiter besitzt eine starke Steigung, was bei sogenannten "binären Anwendungen" nützlich ist, bei denen ein Pixel entweder schwarz oder weiß ist, wobei Grautöne bei "binären Druckanwendungen" unbedeutend sind. Andererseits wird ein langsamer Photoleiter bei Anwendungen benötigt, bei denen eine kontinuierliche Tonerreproduktion benötigt wird, wobei in diesem Falle Grautöne erforderlich sind. Wie gezeigt, ermöglicht das Dotieren mit Titandioxid das "Tunen" oder die Einstellung der Photoleiterempfindlichkeit über einen großen Bereich, ein sehr wünschenswertes und neues Merkmal.
- Ein zusätzliches wünschenswertes Merkmal der obigen titandioxidhaltigen Formulierungen ist ihre niedrige Restspannung. Eine niedrige Restspannung ist ein wünschenswertes Merkmal, da sie gleichzeitig ein Anzeichen dafür ist, daß der Photoleiter effizient gearbeitet hat. Wie in
3 zu sehen, haben in der Mehrzahl der untersuchten Fälle die mit Titandioxid dotierten Photoleiter eine niedrigere Restspannung als die Standards. - Die weitere Beobachtung zeigt, daß zwischen 1 und 35 Gew.-% Titandioxid, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht aus dem Phthalocyanin und dem Titandioxid, nutzbringend eingesetzt werden können. Sowohl die Anatase- als auch die Rutil-Polymorphe von Titandioxid sind alleine oder in Kombination verwendbar. Das p-25 Produkt von Degussa, das aus 70 Gew.-% Anatase und 30 Gew.-% Rutil besteht, liefert im allgemeinen bessere Ergebnisse.
- Ähnliche Ergebnisse, was den Dunkelzerfall betrifft, wurden nicht beobachtet, wenn das Titandioxid durch Aluminiumoxidteilchen, Zinkoxid (untersucht bei einer Laserlicht-Wellenlänge, die sowohl Titandioxid als auch Zinkoxid hindurchlassen) und andere Mineralien ersetzt wurde. Ähnlich ergaben sich, wenn Titandioxid durch Polyvinylbutyral ersetzt wurde, keine Auswirkung auf den Dunkelzerfall oder die Empfindlichkeit, was zeigt, daß die verbesserten Ergebnisse von Titandioxid nicht die Folge einer einfachen Verdickung der Ladungserzeugungsschicht sind.
Claims (10)
- Photoleitendes Element, umfassend ein lichtempfindliches Material, wobei das lichtempfindliche Material eine Mischung aus Oxotitanylphthalocyanin in X-Form und/oder Y-Form und einem Titandioxid ist und das Titandioxid in einer Menge von etwa 1 bis 35 Gew.-% des Gesamtgewichts aus dem genannten Phthalocyanin und dem genannten Titandioxid vorliegt.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 1, wobei das genannte Titandioxid eine Mischung aus Anatas-Titandioxid und Rutil-Titandioxid ist.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 2, wobei die genannte Mischung aus Anatas und Rutil etwa 7 Gewichtsteile Anatas und 3 Gewichtsteile Rutil umfaßt.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 1, wobei das genannte Phthalocyanin X-Form besitzt.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 4, wobei die genannte Mischung durch Ausfällen eines Phthalocyanins in X-Form aus einer Chlormethan/Fluoressigsäure-Mischung durch Zugabe einer Wasser/Methanol-Mischung in Gegenwart des genannten Titandioxids erhalten werden kann.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 4, wobei das genannte Titandioxid eine Mischung aus Anatas-Titandioxid und Rutil-Titandioxid ist.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 6, wobei die genannte Mischung aus Anatas und Rutil etwa 7 Gewichtsteile Anatas und 3 Gewichtsteile Rutil umfaßt.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 1, wobei das genannte Phthalocyanin Y-Form besitzt.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 8, wobei das genannte Titandioxid eine Mischung aus Anatas-Titandioxid und Rutil-Titandioxid ist.
- Photoleitendes Element nach Anspruch 9, wobei die genannte Mischung aus Anatas und Rutil etwa 7 Gewichteile Anatas und 3 Gewichtsteile Rutil umfaßt.
