Abstract
Description
Claims (17)
- 매트릭스 형태로 배열된 복수의 화소들과 각각의 전극기판 표면에 형성된 전극을 포함하고, 적어도 일방의 표면에 러빙처리를 한 1쌍의 전극기판들; 상기 1쌍의 전극기판들 사이에 형성되고, 상기 복수의 화소들 각각에 대응하는 단위벽을 갖는 벽구조체; 및 상기 벽구조체에 의해 적어도 부분적으로 구획되고, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판들 사이에 상기 복수의 화소들 각각에 대응되는 액정영역들이 있으며, 액정영역의 액정분자들이 상기 전극기판에 평행하게 그 중심면에 대해 면대칭 배향되고 또 벤드 배향되어 있는 액정층을 포함하는 액정표시소자.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판들과 상기 벽구조체가 밀착되어 있는 액정표시소자.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 벽구조체를 형성하는 재료에 고분자 액정재료가 포함되는 액정표시소자.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판의 각 표면에 편광축이 서로 직교하는 1쌍의 편광판을 더 포함하고, 상기 1쌍의 편광판중 일방의 편광축과 상기 전극기판에 러빙처리한 방향이 45°를 이루는 액정표시소자.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 액정분자의 장축방향과 직교하는 방향으로 주축을 갖고 상기 액정층의 두께 d와 유효 굴절률 이방성 △n의 적 d.△n과 같은 리타데이션 값을 갖는 1축성 광학보상판을 상기 액정층과 일방의 편광판 사이에 구비한 액정표시소자.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 액정분자의 장축방향과 직교하는 방향으로 주축을 갖고 상기 액정층의 두께 d와 유효 굴절률 이방성 △n의 적 d·△n과 같은 리타데이션 값을 갖는 2축성 광학보상판을 상기 액정층과 일방의 편광판 사이에 구비한 액정표시소자.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판중의 적어도 일방의 전극기판의 재료가 가시광을 적어도 일부의 파장에서 투과할 수 있는 고분자 재료로 된 액정표시장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정층을 구성하는 액정재료의 상광굴절률 no, 이상광굴절률 ne및 상기 벽구조체를 형성하는 재료의 굴절률 np의 관계가를 만족시키는 액정표시소자.
- 매트릭스 형태로 배열된 복수의 화소를 갖는 1쌍의 전극기판으로, 상기 전극기판들중 적어도 하나는 투명한 전극기판; 상기 화소들 각각에 대응하는 단위벽을 갖는 고분자벽; 및 상기 고분자벽에 의해 적어도 부분적으로 구획되고, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판 사이에 복수의 화소들중 하나에 각각 대응하는 액정영역들을 포함하는 액정층으로, 이 액정층에 포함되는 액정분자가 상기 전극기판의 중심을 따라 또한 상기 전극기판에 평행한 면에 관해 면대칭 배향되며, 상기 액정분자가 벤드 배향되는 액정층을 구비하는 액정표시소자의 제조방법에 있어서:액정재료, 분자내에 중합성 관능기를 갖는 액정성 화합물, 중합성 화합물 및 광중합 개시제의 혼합물을, 적어도 일방의 표면을러빙처리한 한쌍의 전극기판 사이로 주입하는 공정; 및 전장과 자장중 적어도 하나를 인가하면서, 상기 한쌍의 전극기판과 상기 혼합물을 포함한 액정셀에 상기 복수의 화소들에 대응하도록 규칙적이고 공간적인 강도의 강약 분포를 갖는 광을 조사하여, 광중합 반응에 의해 액정과 고분자 재료를 상분리시켜 액정과 고분자벽을 형성하는 공정을 포함하는 방법.
- 제9항에 있어서, 규칙적이고 공간적인 강도의 강약분포를 갖는 상기 광이 포토마스크에 의해 발생되는 방법.
- 제9항에 있어서, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판과 혼합물을 포함한 액정셀내의 상기 혼합물을 액정재료의 균일화 온도 이상의 온도에서 규칙적이고 공간적인 조사강도의 강약을 갖는 광을 이용해 중합하고, 그후 전장과 자장중의 적어도 하나를 인가하면서 냉각하는 제조방법.
- 제11항에 있어서, 상기 냉각후에 액정셀에 다시 광을 조사하는 방법.
- 대향하는 1쌍의 전극기판, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판 사이에 배치된 액정층 및 고분자층으로 구성된 표시매체를 구비한 액정표시소자에 있어서:상기 액정층의 액정분자가 상기 전극기판 사이의 중심면에 대해 평행하게 면대칭되도록 벤드 배향을 갖고, 상기 고분자층은 상기 표시매체에 대해 0.1∼5wt%의 고분자 가교체를 포함하는 액정표시소자.
- 제13항에 있어서, 상기 고분자 가교체가 중합성 관능기를 갖는 액정성 화합물을 분자내에 포함하는 액정표시소자.
- 제13항에 있어서, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판의 각 표면에 서로 편광축이 직교하는 1쌍의 편광판과, 상기 액정층과 1쌍의 편광판중 일방의 편광판 사이에 주축이 상기 액정층의 액정분자 장축방향과 직교하는 적어도 1개의 1축성 광학보상판이 더 있으며, 상기 1쌍의 편광판중 랸장의 편광판의 편광축이 상기 전극기판에 러빙처리한 방향에 대해 45°인 액정표시소자.
- 제13항에 있어서, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판의 각 표면에 편광축이 서로 직교하는 1쌍의 편광판과, 상기 액정층과 1쌍의 편광판중 일방의 편광판 사이에 주축이 상기 액정층의 액정분자 장축방향과 직교하는 적어도 1개의 2축성 광학보상판이 있으며, 상기 1쌍의 편광판중 하나의 편광축이 전극기판을 러빙처리한 방향에 대해 45°인 액정표시소자.
- 대향하는 1쌍의 전극기판, 상기 1쌍의 전극기판 사이에 배치된 액정층 및 고분자층으로 된 표시매체를 포함하고, 상기 액정층의 액정분자가 상기 전극기판 사이의 중심면에 평행하게 면대칭하도록 벤드 배향을 갖는 액정표시소자의 제조방법에 있어서:분자중에 관능기를 갖는 액정성 중합 화합물을 포함한 0.1∼5wt%의 고분자 가교체와 액정재료의 혼합물을 적어도 일방이 투명한 상기 1쌍의 기판 사이에 주입하는 공정; 및 정장과 자장중의 적어도 하나를 인가하여 액정분자의 벤드 배향을 안정시키면서 상기 혼합물에 광에너지와 열에너지중의 적어도 하나를 인가하여 액정층과 고분자층을 상분리하는 공정을 포함하는 방법.
