Abstract

(57)【要約】 【目的】 複写機の消耗品を自動的又は半自動的に監視
及び注文するシステムを提供する。 【構成】 複写機は消耗品を監視する在庫品追跡システ
ムを含む。ネットワークされた複数の複写機からの使用
量データが、ネットワークにより消費される消耗品の在
庫品を監視する１つの追跡システムに供給される。自動
的又は半自動的な注文が遠隔相互通信システムを介して
与えられる。注文の確認、計画された発送日及び発送の
確認を追加注文場所から与えることが出来る。システム
は１つのローカルネットワークに特注化して在庫品の監
視をすることが出来る。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は複写装置に係り、特に、
複写装置のための消耗品を監視、追跡し且つ追加注文す
るシステムに関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】基本的プリントシステム及び書類取扱い
システム等を開示する先行技術としてはアメリカ合衆国
特許第４，４９６，２３７号を、またユーザインターフ
ェイスシステム等を開示するものとして同特許第５，０
３８，３１９号及び第５，０５７，８６６号を挙げるこ
とが出来る。
【０００３】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明は、複数の複写機
により消費される消耗品の在庫を監視する消耗品監視シ
ステムを提供する。複写機の少なくとも１つが在庫品追
跡システムを備える。在庫品追跡システムには、複数の
複写機により消耗品の夫々の取扱いに関する情報が供給
される。１の複写機に又は複数の複写機の夫々に配され
た表示装置は、在庫品追跡システムから要求された情報
を表示する。遠隔の相互通信能力により、そのシステム
は、在庫品の注文を自動的又は半自動的に提出し、予測
された及び／又は遅延した発送日に関する情報を受け取
り、また、確認された発送又は注文受領情報に基づいて
在庫の状況を更新することが出来る。

【実施例】図１を参照すると、紙シートのような記録媒
体に静電トナー又はインクのようなマーキング材料を塗
布することにより書類のハードコピーを作成するため
の、電子写真装置、インクジェットプリンタ等のような
複写機１０が示されている。基本的なプリント及び書類
取扱いシステムは公知であり、例えば米国特許第４，４
９６，２３７号明細書に示されている。以下で示す以外
には、そのようなシステムの特別な詳細な事項は、本発
明を理解するために必要ではなく、このシステムは、複
写機１０内のプリントシステムを概略的に示す３次元の
ボックス１６で表わされる。
【０００５】好ましくは、複写機１０は、機械の制御の
ために操作者が入力を行ない且つ操作情報、分析結果、
及び本発明に従う在庫品情報を表示するためのタッチス
クリーン１４を有するユーザインターフェイス１２を利
用する。そのようなユーザインターフェイスシステムは
公知であり、例えば米国特許５，０３８，３１９号及び
５，０５７，８６６号明細書に開示されており、それら
の開示は参照のためここに編入する。ユーザインターフ
ェイス１２は、タッチスクリーン１４上の情報表示を制
御するユーザインターフェイス制御モジュール１８に連
結され、タッチスクリーン１４からの制御情報を複写機
１０内のサブシステムに伝達する。本発明について特に
言及すると、ユーザインターフェイスモジュールは、ト
ナー又はインクの形態のマーキング材料及び紙シート等
の記録媒体のような消耗品の在庫及び追加注文状況を追
跡する在庫品追跡システムモジュール２０へ信号を供給
し、またそれから信号を受け取るための適当なデータバ
ス１９により結合される。モジュール２０は、適当なソ
フトウエアルーチンを使用して在庫品情報を格納し、更
新し且つ演算するマイクロプロセッサ及びメモリを備え
たプリント配線板（ＰＷＢ）を有する。本発明の追跡シ
ステムの詳細な作動は以下に記述する。
【０００６】複写機１０は、プログラム、プログラムの
更新、及び所望により在庫品更新情報を供給するフロッ
ピーディスクポートような入力／出力ポート２２を有す
るのが好ましい。複写機１０は、また、１以上のカウン
タ２４を有する。カウンタ２４は、印刷部数又はプリン
タ１６を巡回する複写紙の数に関する印刷システム１６
内のセンサからの情報を受け取る。好ましくは、複写運
転の完了後に各カウンタ２４は更新される。カウンタ２
４は、種々のサイズの紙シート、及びトナー又はインク
カートリッジのような追跡すべき各消耗品の供給項目の
ために設けられる。このデータから、所定の期間中に使
用される各サイズの紙シート数又はトナー若しくはイン
クの量に関して使用量即ち取扱い情報が引き出される。
それに代えて、紙シートの使用量に基づいて、トナー又
はインクの消費量が１枚当りの平均のマーキング材料の
使用量に基づいて引き出される。
【０００７】通信システムモジュール２６もまた複写機
と組み合される。通信システム２６は、ローカルエリア
ネットワーク２８内の他の同様な複写機１０ａ、１０
ｂ、・・・１０ｎ（図２）を連結するための共用ライン
２７ａを有する。共用ライン２７ａは、複写機１０ａ、
１０ｂ・・・１０ｎの夫々の複数のカウンタと、複写機
１０の追跡システムモジュールとの連結を提供する。更
に、追跡システム２０への命令及びそれからの要求情報
が、ユーザインターフェイス１２ａ、１２ｂ、・・・１
２ｎのいずれが選択されてもそれに表示できるように、
共用ライン２６ａは、ネットワーク中の他の複写機のユ
ーザインターフェイス１２ａ、１２ｂ、・・・１２ｎで
与えられる命令を追跡システムモジュール２０に供給す
ることができる。
【０００８】複写機１０には、例えば遠隔相互通信（Ｒ
ＩＣ）システムを介して遠隔通信能力が与えられてお
り、遠隔消耗品注文位置への及びそれからの情報がもた
らされる。この点に関しては、通信システムモジュール
２６は、適当な印刷配線板と、これと協動し、複写機１
０を公衆交換電話回線に結合するためのモデムを構成す
るソフトウエアとを含む。また、それに代えて、機械１
０は、専用遠隔通信システム又は別の形のデータ伝達シ
ステムを介して通信できる。用品を追加注文する場所で
は、モデム４０はリンク２７ｂからデータを受け取り、
又はそれにデータを供給する。ネットワーク２８からの
データは、主としてネットワーク２８で消費された消耗
品の注文を含む。追加注文現場からの情報は、注文確
認、予定された配達日、及び発送確認を含むことができ
る。遠隔の注文現場でのそのような通信を可能にするた
めに、モデム４０を備えたパーソナルコンピュータ４２
が設けられる。パーソナルコンピュータ４２は、ＣＲＴ
又は平面ディスプレイ４４のような表示装置及びプリン
タ４８を駆動する。到来する注文情報は、パーソナルコ
ンピュータ４２により、ディスプレイ４４にその情報を
表示するように及び／又はプリンタ４８を介して注文の
ハードコピーを供給するように制御することができる。
キーボード４６のようなマニュアル入力装置が、供給ポ
イントの人間が予定の配達日を入力し発送を確認できる
ように設けられる。予定された配達及び発送情報は、リ
ンク２７ｂを経由して複写機１０に伝達されて、複写機
１０又はネットワーク２８の他の複写機のＵＩ１２に表
示することが出来る。
【０００９】図３及び図４は、追跡すべき各消耗品のた
めの追跡システムモジュール２０（図５）で発生する在
庫品追跡プロセスを記述するグラフであり、ＵＩ１２に
供給できる在庫品情報の形式をも表わす。システムは、
運転開始時、並びに、データの計算及び処理を遂行する
ランダムアクセスメモリと、追跡システム２０の種々の
操作を可能にするソフトウエアを格納するリードオンリ
ーメモリとを例として含むマイクロプロセッサ３０に量
情報を供給することにより、各発送の受領時に初期化さ
れる。入力情報は、例えば注文が受け取られたときにユ
ーザインターフェイス１４を介して、又は、複写機１０
を材料供給場所に連結する通信システムを介し発送確認
データが受け取られた場合には通信モジュール２６を介
して、マイクロプロセッサ３０に供給されてもよい。こ
の初期化情報は、追跡すべき各消耗材料のための不揮発
性メモリ３２に格納される。複数の複写機の夫々にある
カウンタ２４、２４ａは、マイクロプロセッサ３０に使
用量データを供給する。このデータに基づいて、紙シー
トのカウント数又はカートリッジのカウント数が、実際
の使用量データを供給するために不揮発性メモリ３２に
蓄積され、それは残る在庫品を示すために初期の在庫量
に対して減算される。実際の使用量データは、追跡すべ
き各消耗品項目の曲線Ｓを計算するために利用される。
曲線Ｓは、実際の使用部分と計画された使用部分とを含
む。計画された使用量部分と注文のしきい値との交点
は、追加注文点を与える。曲線Ｓは、追加注文点を修正
するために新しい実際の使用量データに基づいて周期的
に再計算してもよい。追跡すべき各項のしきい値は、タ
ッチスクリーン１４又はポート２２のようなユーザ入力
を介しての入力により修正できる。追加注文点の演算
は、マイクロプロセッサ３０の処理部分の一部を形成す
る決定手段３４で遂行される。
【００１０】周期的に、又は、特定項目の在庫が減る都
度、例えば比較器のような判定手段３６は、在庫レベル
が注文しきい値を越えたか否かを決定するために判定を
行う。もし、判定手段３６が肯定的な決定をするなら
ば、マイクロプロセッサ３０は、操作者に追加注文が必
要である旨注意を促すために追加注文のメッセージを表
示するようにＵＩ１２を制御する。また、それに代え
て、追加注文の情報は、通信モジュール２６により追加
注文位置に直接自動的に、又は、操作者によるタッチス
クリーン１４を介しての確認の後に半自動的にのいずれ
かで送ることができる。
【００１１】図６（Ａ）について述べる。在庫品制御シ
ステムが初期化されるときには、最初のしきい値は、通
信システム２６又はユーザインターフェイス１２から入
力され、追跡すべき１つの消耗品材料のしきい値入力で
あるとステップＳ２で認識される。その情報がステップ
Ｓ２で初期化データであると認識されると、その情報は
ステップ３で不揮発性メモリ３２に格納される。ステッ
プＳ３で格納された値は、追跡すべき複数の消耗品材料
の在庫の初期値として使用される。
【００１２】同様に、図６（Ｂ）は、在庫品配達情報の
処理を示すフローチャートである。ステップＳ１Ａで、
配達情報が、遠隔の追加注文現場のパーソナルコンピュ
ータ４２から通信システム２６により、又は、ユーザイ
ンターフェイス１２を通して操作者により与えられる。
ステップＳ２Ａでは、その情報入力は、配達される目録
として量及び形式により認識される。ステップＳ２Ａで
認識された量は、不揮発性メモリ３２の残高に加えら
れ、関連する特定の消耗品材料の量を更新する。
【００１３】図７は、使用が発生するときの在庫品追跡
及び追加注文システムを示すフローチャートである。ス
テップＳ４で、プリンタ１６からの紙シートの搬出のよ
うな消耗品材料の使用を表わすイベントが、書類取扱い
システム１０、１０ａ・・・・１０ｎの夫々のセンサ
（図示せず）により検出される。センサ出力は、ステッ
プＳ５で書類システムの夫々のローカルカウンタ２４を
更新する。周期的に、又はマイクロプロセッサ３０によ
る照会があると、ステップＳ６のように、カウンタ２４
のカウント値が、マイクロプロセッサ３０の判定手段３
４のＮＶＭ３２に格納された値から減算される。ステッ
プＳ６からのフローは次いでステップＳ７に進み、そこ
では、ＮＶＭ３２に格納された新しい在庫量がしきい値
よりも低いか否かの判定が判定手段３６で行われる。も
し、現在量がしきい値よりも低くなければフローは終了
する。もし、現在量がしきい値よりも低ければ、２つの
択一的なルーチンがそれに続く。処理はステップＳ８に
進むことができ、ステップＳ８で注意を喚起する決定が
なされ、ステップＳ９でその注意がユーザインターフェ
イスに表示される。操作者は、タッチスクリーン１４へ
の適当な入力により、再供給の必要を確認し、適当なソ
フトウエア又はハードウエア切換によってフローをステ
ップＳ１０に向け、ステップＳ１０では、機械又はネッ
トワーク、必要な材料、及び量を特定して、通信モジュ
ール２６を介して注文が遠隔追加注文現場に送られる。
また、それに代えて、フローは、ステップＳ７から直接
にＳ１０に進むことができ、それにより、操作者入力無
しで自動的な追加注文を起こす。注文が行われた機械又
はネットワークを特定する情報は、ＮＶＭ３２に格納す
ることが出来る。そのうえ、追加注文すべき材料の標準
の注文量をＮＶＭ３２に格納し、タッチスクリーン１４
を介しての操作者入力により、又はリンク２７ｂを介し
て追加注文場所から、それを変更することが出来る。
【００１４】上述のシステムは多くの利点を有する。消
耗品の在庫に関するそのときの状況が操作者又はＵＩ１
２に利用可能である。消耗用品の追加注文が自動化又は
半自動化されることにより、ジャストインタイム方式即
ち適宜時の在庫制御が出来る。追加注文のしきい値は、
利用者の場所の特定の条件のために特注化できて、消耗
品の利用できる収納の量、使用率及び配達時間の相違に
適応する。

  1. 【請求項１】 ネットワークされた複数の複写装置用の
    消耗品監視及び注文するシステムであって、 ネットワーク内に配列された複数の複写機と、 複写機のネットワークと連結され、前記複数の複写機に
    より消費される少なくとも１つの消耗品の在庫を追跡す
    る在庫品追跡システムと、 複写機の夫々に配置され消耗品に関連する取扱い情報を
    決定する複数の取扱い手段と、 取扱い手段の夫々から在庫システムに使用量情報を供給
    する手段と、 前記在庫品追跡システムに含まれ、複数の取扱い手段か
    らの取扱い情報に基づいて消耗品の計画された追加注文
    点を決定する決定手段と、 前記複写機の少なくとも１つと結合される表示装置と、 在庫品追跡システムからの情報を表示装置に表示する手
    段と、を備えるシステム。
