Description
「能動デバイス」という用語には、増幅、振動、又は信号制御などの動的機能を発揮することができるとともに、動作するのに電源が必要であるエレクトロニクスコンポーネント又は光学コンポーネントが含まれる。
本発明は、放射性硬化型熱転写素子を含むLITIドナーフィルムと、例えばマイクロエレクトロニクスデバイス及び光学デバイスを製造する際に有用な放射性硬化型熱転写層を作製する方法を提供する。図1に示されているように、代表的なLITIドナーフィルムには、力学的支持のためのドナーサブストレート100と、サブストレート100の上を覆っているとともに結像力を熱に変換させる目的で用いられるLTHC層102が備わっている。その他の層としては例えば、転写層106、サブストレートの上を覆っている任意の中間層104、サブストレート100とLTHC層102との間にある任意の下層108、及び転写層の下にある任意の剥離層110が挙げられ得る。
一般に、LITIドナーの熱転写素子にはサブストレートが備わっている。このドナーサブストレートはポリマーフィルムであることができる。1つの適したタイプのポリマーフィルムはポリエステルフィルム、例えばポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)又はポリエチレンナフタレート(PEN)フィルムである。その一方で、その他のフィルムとしては、レセプタの反対側からドナーの放射を行う場合、特定の波長における光透過率が高いうえに、特定の用途に合わせて十分な力学的及び熱的安定性があるといった適切な光学特性を備えているものが挙げられる。一部の実施形態では、サブストレートそのものに、結像放射線吸収剤物質を含有させてよく、この場合には、サブストレートの一部、例えば最上層、又はサブストレート全体(例えば吸収剤がサブストレート全体にわたり均質である場合)をLTHC層として機能させることができる。この場合、LTHCもサブストレートとして機能するため、サブストレートは任意的なものである。
例えば結像の最中にドナーサブストレートへの損傷を最小限に抑える目的で、任意の下層をドナーサブストレートとLTHC層の間にコーティングするか、又は別の方法で配置してよい。下層は、LTHC層のドナーサブストレート素子に対する接着性に影響を与える可能性がある。典型的には、下層は耐熱性が高く(すなわち前記サブストレートよりも熱伝導率が低い)、断熱材としての機能を果たして、LTHC層中で発生する熱からサブストレートを守る。あるいは、例えばLTHC層の過熱により生じる可能性がある結像欠陥の発生を減少させる目的で、前記サブストレートよりも熱伝導率が高い下層を用いて、LTHC層から前記サブストレートへの熱輸送を高めることができる。
放射線誘起型熱転写では、発光源から放射される光のエネルギーを熱転写ドナーの中に結合させる目的で、LTHC層を熱転写ドナー内に組み込む。LTHC層には典型的に、入射放射線を吸収するとともに、入射放射線の少なくとも一部を熱に変換して転写層を熱転写ドナーからレセプタに転写できるようにする結像放射線吸収剤物質が含まれている。一部の実施形態では、熱転写素子には、LTHC層、及び熱転写ドナーのLTHC層以外の層の1つ以上、例えば、ドナーサブストレート、転写層、任意の中間層、又は任意の剥離層の中に配置されている追加の結像放射線吸収剤物質(単一又は複数)が挙げられる。
熱転写素子内に、任意の要素として中間層を搭載してよい。任意の中間層は、転写層の転写部分の損傷と汚染を最小限に抑える目的で用いてよく、さらには、転写層の転写部分の変形を軽減させるであろう。中間層はさらに、熱転写素子に対する転写層の接着性に影響を及ぼすか、又は別に、結像及び非結像領域内の転写層の剥離をその他の方法で制御するであろう。典型的には、中間層は耐熱性が高く、結像条件下では、とりわけ転写像が機能しなくなる程度まで変形又は化学分解することはない。中間層は典型的には、転写プロセス中、LTHC層と接触した状態を保つとともに、実質的に転写層とともに転写されることはない。
熱転写素子内に、転写層を搭載してよい。転写層は一般に、例えば、蒸着又はスパッタリング、均一層としてコーティング、又はデジタル印刷(例えば、デジタルインクジェット印刷又はデジタル電子写真印刷)、リソグラフ印刷、又はマスクを介した蒸着若しくはスパッタリングを用いてパターン状に印刷することによって、LTHC層の上を覆うように形成させる。既述のとおり、LTHC層と転写層の間に、その他の任意の層、例えば、任意の中間層を組み込んでよい。
放射線(例えば、光)を用いる熱転写では、さまざまな放射線発光源を用いることができる。アナログ技法(例えば、マスクを介した照射)では、高出力光源(例えば、キセノンフラッシュランプとレーザー)が有用である。デジタル結像技法では、赤外レーザー、可視レーザー、及び紫外レーザーが特に有用である。適したレーザーとしては例えば、高出力(例えば、100mW以上)のシングルモードレーザーダイオード、ファイバー結合型レーザーダイオード、及びダイオード励起ソリッドステートレーザー(例えば、Nd:YAG及びNd:YLF)が挙げられる。レーザー照射持続時間は、例えば、約0.1マイクロ秒〜100マイクロ秒の範囲内にすることができ、レーザーフルエンスは、例えば、約0.01J/cm2〜約1J/cm2の範囲内にすることができる。
結像の最中、転写層の一部をレセプタに結像及び転写させるために、熱転写素子は典型的にレセプタと密接に接触することになる。少なくとも一部の場合では、圧力又は真空を用いて、レセプタと密接に接触した状態で熱転写素子を保持させてよい。続いて、例えば、有機マイクロエレクトロニクスデバイスを形成させるためにパターンに従って転写層を熱転写素子からレセプタに像様転写する目的で、放射線源を用いて、LTHC層(及び/又は結像放射線吸収剤物質が含まれているその他の層(単一又は複数))を像様な形で(例えば、デジタル処理で、又はマスクを介したアナログ照射によって)加熱してよい。
レセプタサブストレートは、ガラス、透明フィルム、反射フィルム、金属、半導体、各種紙、及びプラスチックを含む、特定の用途に適しているアイテムであってよいが、これらに限らない)。例えば、レセプタサブストレートは、ディスプレイ用途に適しているいずれかのタイプのサブストレート又はディスプレイ素子であってよい。液晶ディスプレイ、又は発光型ディスプレイなどのディスプレイで用いるのに適しているレセプタサブストレートとしては、可視光を実質的に通す硬質又は可撓性サブストレートが挙げられる。硬質レセプタサブストレートの例としては、ガラス、インジウム酸化スズ被覆ガラス、低温ポリシリコン、及び硬質プラスチックが挙げられる。
放射線硬化型LTITドナーフィルムを用いて、さまざまな電子デバイス及び光学デバイスを製造することができる。一部の場合では、複数の熱転写素子を用いてデバイス又はその他の物体を形成させてよい。複数の熱転写素子としては、多成分転写アセンブリを含む熱転写素子、及び単一層を転写させる熱転写素子を挙げてよい。例えば、多成分転写アセンブリを含む1つ以上の熱転写素子、及び単一層を転写させる1つ以上の熱転写素子を用いて、デバイス又はその他の物体を形成させてよい。
OLEDの少なくとも一部を形成させるために多層転写アセンブリを転写することによって、熱転写素子を用いて能動デバイスを形成させることの説明に役立つ非限定例が得られる。多成分転写ユニットの例は、米国特許6,410,201号に記載されている。少なくとも一部の例では、OLEDデバイスに、カソードとアノードの間に挟み込まれている、適した有機材の薄層(単一又は複数)が備わっている。カソードから有機層(単一又は複数)の中に電子を注入させ、アノードから有機層(単一又は複数)の中に正孔を注入させる。注入電荷は、逆帯電電極の方に移動するにつれ再結合して、典型的には励起子と呼ばれている電子−正孔の対を形成させる。これらの励起子、又は励起状態の種は、基底状態に戻る時に、光の形状でエネルギーを発する(例えば、T.ツツイ(Tsutsui)の『MRS紀要』22巻、39〜45ページ(1997年)を参照のこと)。
カーボンブラックとプルシアンブルー(アイアンブルー及びピグメントブルー27としても知られている)を含有させて、808ナノメートルの吸収度が同程度であるLTHC層を調製した。
顔料充填量が異なる一連のLTHC層被膜を表IVに示されている組成から調製した。
実施例2のタイプ7として上述したプルシアンブルーLITIドナーフィルムで、厚み2.75マイクロメートルのLTHC中に21.6%の顔料充填率で分散している結像放射線吸収剤物質としてプルシアンブルー顔料が含まれている放射線硬化型熱転写素子を含むドナーフィルムを用いて、OLED層の放出層のパターニングを行った。
Claims (5)
- サブストレートと、
前記サブストレートの上を覆う光熱変換層と
を含む熱転写素子であって、
前記光熱変換層は、
結像放射線吸収剤物質と、
硬化波長の放射線の照射によって硬化可能な放射線硬化型物質と
を含み、
前記結像放射線吸収剤物質は非小粒子吸収剤物質から構成され、
前記非小粒子吸収剤物質は結像放射線を吸収する一方で前記硬化波長を実質的に吸収せず、
前記非小粒子吸収剤物質はプルシアンブルーである熱転写素子。 - サブストレートと、前記サブストレートの上を覆って結像放射線吸収剤物質及び放射線硬化型物質から形成された光熱変換層とを含む熱転写素子を作製するための方法であって、
前記サブストレートの上に前記光熱変換層をコーティングする工程と、
前記結像放射線吸収剤物質を非小粒子吸収剤物質から構成させる工程と、
前記非小粒子吸収剤物質が結像放射線を吸収する一方で前記硬化波長を実質的に吸収しないで、前記放射線硬化型物質を放射線硬化させる工程と
を含み、
前記非小粒子吸収剤物質はプルシアンブルーである方法。 - 前記結像放射線吸収剤物質は、可視スペクトルにおいて前記放射線が実質的に吸収されない、請求項1に記載の熱転写素子。
- 前記可視スペクトルにおける透過性が、前記光熱変換層のコーティングを行っている最中における光検査方法ができる程度である、請求項3に記載の熱転写素子。
- 前記可視スペクトルにおける透過性が、前記放射線を照射する装置の前記サブストレートに対する位置合わせができる程度である、請求項3に記載の熱転写素子。
