Description
また、本発明は非晶質炭素層と結晶質炭素層によりリチウムの挿入・脱離時に生じる金属コア層の体積変化を抑えることができ、従って、サイクル寿命特性を向上させることができる。
一方、負極材の積層順序は金属コア層、非晶質炭素層、結晶質炭素層であるのが望ましい。
本発明の負極材は金属負極材の長所である高い充・放電の容量を維持しながら、非晶質炭素層と結晶質炭素層によりリチウムの挿入・脱離時に生じる金属コア層の体積変化を抑えることにより、電池のサイクル寿命特性を向上させることができる。
図1は、本発明の一実施例により製造できる負極材の断面を示しており、電気化学的に充・放電可能な金属の表面が非晶質炭素層と結晶質炭素層とからなる表面層で被覆されていることを示している。
Siと天然黒鉛を50wt%:50wt%に混合したあと、細川ミクロン(株)のMechano Fusion装置を用いて分当たり600回の回転速度で30分間機械的合金(Mechanical Alloying)を行って負極材を得た。負極材は図6に示したとおり、Si金属層、非晶質炭素層、結晶質炭素層を形成した。
負極材を評価するために、上記製造された負極材粉末にバインダーとしてPVDFを10wt%、導電剤としてアセチレンブラックを10wt%、溶媒としてNMPを添加して混合したあと、均一なスラリーを製造した。このスラリーを20マイクロの銅箔にコーティング、乾燥、圧延したあと、所望の大きさでパンチして負極を製造した。上記負極とカウンター電極として金属リチウムを用い、1モールのLiPF6を溶解させたEC:EMC溶液を電解液として使用してコイン型電池を製造した。
Siの代わりにGas Atomize法で製造したSi 62wt%+Co 38wt%の組成を有する合金を用いたことを除いては実施例1と同様に行って負極材及びコイン型電池を製造した。
Siに対し、Mechano Fusion装置を用いて30分間機械的合金を行って得た負極材を用いたことを除いては実施例1と同様にコイン型電池を製造した。
Gas Atomize法で製造したSi 62wt%+Co 38wt%の組成を有する合金を負極材として用いたことを除いては実施例1と同様にコイン型電池を製造した。
Siと天然黒鉛の代わりにSiと元来非晶質のハードカーボン(Hard carbon)を用いたことを除いては実施例1と同様に行って負極材及びコイン型電池を製造した。比較例3の負極材はSi金属層、非晶質炭素層を形成した。
Si-Co合金と平均粒径が5ミクロン以下の黒鉛微分を混合し、Hybridization Systemで3分間行って負極材を得た。比較例4の負極材は金属コア層、結晶質炭素層を形成した。比較例4の負極材を使用したことを除いては実施例1と同様に行ってコイン型電池を製造した。
実施例1から得られた負極材を用いて電池を製造した場合には、図2に示されたとおり、50サイクルまで初期の容量を維持している反面、比較例1から得られた負極材を用いた場合には、初期の数サイクル内に容量が急減した。このような傾向は実施例2から得られた負極材と比較例2から得られた負極材を用いて製造した電池のサイクル寿命特性を示した図3からも見られる。
一方、3回の充・放電サイクルが終わってから、コインセルを分解したあと、電極の厚さを測定した。比較例2の負極材の場合、充・放電を行ったあと、厚さがおよそ300%(28μm=>83μm)程度増加するのが観察されたが、実施例2の負極材の場合には50%(33μm―>50μm)程度の厚さ変化が観察され体積膨張の抑制効果を奏することが分かった。
Claims (6)
- リチウムを繰返し挿入・脱離可能な金属コア層と、
上記金属コア層の表面に被覆された非晶質炭素層と、
上記非晶質炭素層に被覆された結晶質炭素層とを含み、
前記金属コア層が単一層で存在し、Si、Al、Sn、Sb、Bi、As、GeおよびPbからなる群より選ばれた少なくとも1種を含む金属又は合金からなることを特徴とする負極材。 - 金属コア層:非晶質炭素層:結晶質炭素層=90〜10wt%:0.1〜50wt%:9〜90wt%である、請求項1に記載の負極材。
- 非晶質炭素層において炭素の層間距離d002が0.34nm以上で、厚さが5nm以上である、請求項1に記載の負極材。
- 請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか1項に記載の負極材を用いた二次電池。
- コア層を形成する金属物質と結晶質炭素を混合し、そして、該金属物質と結晶質炭素を機械的合金化工程に付して、非晶質炭素層と結晶質炭素層を同時に金属コア層上に形成させる工程を含む、請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の負極材の製造方法。
- 金属物質と結晶質炭素との混合割合(重量比)が10〜90:90〜10である、請求項5に記載の負極材の製造方法。
