Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及基于碳纳米管的复合材料作为含水溶液用粘度增强剂的用途。
背景技术
在本领域的现有技术中,用于提高含水溶液粘度的粘度增强剂为天然聚合物例如多糖和纤维素衍生物,以及基于丙烯酸类或者乙烯基或者氨基甲酸酯的类型的合成聚合物例如聚(甲基)丙烯酰胺(任选地部分水解)和聚(甲基)丙烯酸酯,以及其共聚物。这些聚合物由于它们的摩尔质量和链间离子斥力而使粘度提高。控制粘度的机理是由于流体力学体积的增加和链间斥力。
然而,在电解质或者表面活性剂的存在下,或者当这些聚合物经受高的操作温度时,这些聚合物并不总是产生良好的增稠性质。这由它们的增稠能力的显著降低所证明。此外,发现含有这些聚合物的含水溶液随着时间推移不是很稳定。
目前已发现使用基于碳纳米管的复合材料作为含水溶液的粘度增强剂能够克服这些问题。
发明内容
因此,本发明涉及基于碳纳米管的复合材料作为含水溶液的粘度增强剂的用途,特征在于所述复合材料包含碳纳米管(CNT)和至少一种亲水性(共)聚合物。
根据本发明,(共)聚合物以不可逆方式吸附和/或接枝在CNT的表面上。表述“不可逆吸附的(共)聚合物”理解为是指不再能通过用水对CNT/聚合物混合物的各种洗涤而从CNT提取出的聚合物。
WO 03/106600和WO 03/050332公开了通过将化合物(尤其是聚合物化合物)分散在水中并且向其加入CNT而获得的CNT含水分散体。这些文献未公开含有吸附和/或接枝在CNT表面上的(共)聚合物的复合材料作为粘度增强剂的用途。
根据本发明,CNT/亲水性(共)聚合物质量比为1~99%、优选为5~50%并且更优选为5~35%。
碳纳米管由卷绕的石墨片组成,以由五边形和六边形组成的并且具有类似于富勒烯结构的结构的半球封端,所述碳纳米管具有直径为0.4~50nm、优选小于100nm且长度/直径比非常高(典型地大于10且通常大于100)的管状结构。根据本发明,CNT是单壁、双壁和/或多壁碳纳米管。
碳纳米管可使用各种方法如放电、激光烧蚀或者化学气相沉积制备。在这些技术中,后者似乎是能够确保可以制造大量碳纳管的唯一一种技术。对于单独的或者非聚集的多壁碳纳米管的制备,读者可例如更具体地参考文献WO 86/03455和WO 03/002456。
术语“亲水性(共)聚合物”理解为是指由至少50重量%的亲水性单体组成并且因此在水中可容易地分散的(共)聚合物。
所述亲水性单体可为离子(阳离子或者阴离子)单体(A)、中性单体(B)和/或两性单体(C)。

根据本发明的亲水性(共)聚合物可如下获得:通过常规的自由基聚合或者受控自由基聚合;通过离子聚合;通过加聚或者通过缩聚;应当理解,某些单体可使用这些聚合技术的一种或者多种进行聚合。
根据本发明的复合材料主要可以两种模式制备:
-通过将CNT与熔融聚合物、熔融聚合物的共混物或者在溶剂中的一种或者多种聚合物的溶液接触/或将CNT分散在熔融聚合物、熔融聚合物的共混物或者在溶剂中的一种或者多种聚合物的溶液中;
-或者通过将CNT与单体、单体共混物、在溶剂中的一种或者多种单体的溶液或者溶解在一种或者多种单体中的一种或者多种聚合物接触/或将CNT分散在单体、单体共混物、在溶剂中的一种或者多种单体的溶液或者溶解在一种或者多种单体中的一种或者多种聚合物中。
在任何化学改性之前,根据本发明的碳纳米管可有利地物理纯化或者化学纯化,尤其是通过使用酸溶液(例如硫酸和/或盐酸溶液)对其进行洗涤以从其除去矿物和金属杂质和/或通过用次氯酸钠对其进行处理以获得更大量的含氧官能团。CNT还可在与单体或者聚合物接触之前进行研磨。
CNT可以各种方式与单体或者聚合物接触:
·如果单体或者聚合物为液体形式,则CNT粉末与单体或者聚合物的接触例如对应于这样的分散,其通过直接引入、通过将单体或者聚合物倒入粉末中、或者相反地通过将单体或者聚合物逐滴引入到CNT粉末中、或者通过使用雾化器将单体或者聚合物雾化或喷雾并将其喷在CNT粉末上而实现。
所述分散方法也可通过将CNT粉末倒入单体或者聚合物溶液中而发生,所述单体或者聚合物溶液可以是或者不是沉积在固体表面上的流体膜或者细小液滴(露)的形式:
·如果单体或者聚合物为气态形式,则CNT粉末与单体或者聚合物的接触对应于单体或者聚合物蒸气的吸附,其中,所述单体或者聚合物蒸气可通过气体(优选惰性气体)进行输送;
·如果单体或者聚合物为固体形式,则CNT粉末与单体或者聚合物的接触对应于粉末共混或者干混并且必须随后进行热处理,在所述热处理期间,单体或者聚合物变为液体或者气体形式以确保单体或者聚合物与CNT的紧密且均匀的混合。
还可使用在CNT的存在下将单体或者聚合物溶解在溶剂中的预备步骤而将CNT分散在单体或者聚合物中,其中,CNT/单体或者CNT/聚合物浓度通常小于30%、有利地小于20%并且优选小于15%。
任选地与单体或者聚合物一起存在的溶剂可选自如下物质:水;环状或者线型的醚;醇;酮;脂肪族酯;酸,如乙酸、丙酸或者丁酸;芳族溶剂,如苯、甲苯、二甲苯或者乙苯;卤化溶剂,如二氯甲烷、氯仿或者二氯乙烷;烷烃,如戊烷、正己烷、环己烷、庚烷、辛烷、壬烷或者十二烷;酰胺,如二甲基甲酰胺(DMF);二甲亚砜(DMSO),这些物质单独地或者作为混合物使用。
在这种情况下,在所述预备步骤之后为溶剂挥发步骤(优选在搅拌下进行),以获得粉末形式的组合物。有利地,可使用过滤方法以缩短周期同时获得干燥形式的CNT粉末/单体或者聚合物的组合物。
如果引入不同物理形式的单体或者聚合物,则优选连续发生不同物理形式的化合物与CNT的接触:例如,气态形式的单体和/或聚合物在CNT上的吸附之后,进行与固体形式或者液体形式的第二单体或者聚合物的干混。
该接触/分散步骤可在常规合成反应器中、在流化床反应器中、或者在Z型叶片混合器或者布拉本德混合器型的混合设备中、或者在挤出机中或者在任何其它本领域技术人员已知的相同类型的混合设备中进行。
在该最初的接触/分散步骤之后,CNT/单体或者聚合物混合物保持为固体形式并且保持良好的流动性质(其不沉降为固体块)。如果必要,可对或不对其进行机械搅拌,或者可以流化床形式或可不以流化床形式悬浮在气体中。
所引入的单体或者聚合物的量使得,在该接触/分散步骤之后,其低于用于获得液态CNT悬浮液或者获得其中CNT颗粒部分地或者完全地结合在一起的糊料的阈值。该阈值具体取决于单体或者聚合物浸润CNT粉末的能力,并且如果单体或者聚合物为液体或者溶液,则其取决于所引入的液体的粘度。
如果单体为丙烯酸,该量通常为30~90%。
获得根据本发明的复合材料的方法包括在接触/分散步骤之后的任选的粉末热处理。
该热处理在于以如下方式对在接触/分散步骤之后获得的粉末进行加热:通过该热处理改进粉末的物理-化学性质。
如果已将含有单体的液体引入到该接触/分散步骤(一种或者多种液态单体、一种或者多种单体的溶液等)中,则该热处理步骤可为例如这样的加热操作,其用于使单体聚合和/或强物理吸附和/或在单体或者所形成的聚合物的一部分与CNT之间具有键生成的化学吸附。
在CNT和通过在第一个步骤中引入的单体而原位合成的聚合物之间或者CNT与在第一个步骤期间所添加的聚合物之间的键的生成的特征在于,通过使用用于聚合物的选择性溶剂的各种洗涤操作,不再能够将在热处理之前原位产生的或者添加到CNT中的该聚合物的一部分从CNT中提取出来,而对于得自接触/分散步骤的(CNT/单体或者聚合物)混合物的相同洗涤操作可以将所有的单体或者聚合物从CNT中提取出来。
如果在该接触/分散步骤中使用一种或者多种(共)聚合物的溶液,则热处理引起强的物理吸附或者在CNT和聚合物之间具有共价键生成的化学吸附和/或聚合的继续,使得例如聚合物的摩尔质量增加。
如果单体或者聚合物为液体形式或者溶解在溶剂中,则该热处理还可改善液体和CNT之间的分布。
当期望在热处理期间发生聚合时,该热处理步骤的温度和压力条件将依照本领域技术人员已知的通常聚合条件。在聚合期间,根据所述单体和聚合物的性质,气氛可以是或者可以不是惰性的。
在热处理过程中的丙烯酸聚合的情况下,压力通常为0~300kPa并且温度为40~150℃。加热时间为5~1000分钟并且更精确地为300~600分钟。有利地,热处理按照下列热周期发生:首先,将温度保持在64℃下150~500分钟,然后在120℃的第二温度下保持100~200分钟,在冷却至室温前,压力仍保持为大气压。
在该热处理后,所获得的产物保持固体粉末形式并且保持良好的流动性质(其不沉降为固体块)。在该步骤之后,所获得的产物低于用于获得液态CNT悬浮液或者获得其中CNT颗粒部分地或者完全地结合在一起的糊料的阈值。
获得根据本发明的组合物的方法包括:在该接触/分散步骤后或者在物理和/或化学吸附热处理之后,将存在于基于CNT的粉末组合物中但是未与组合物结合的化合物分离的任选步骤。该步骤可例如在于使用含有用于待除去化合物的溶剂的溶液的洗涤操作和/或干燥操作以脱挥发除去挥发性产物。为了彻底洗涤,可例如使用溶剂溶液。洗涤可以几个步骤(优选1~5个步骤)实施,以改善非结合化合物的分离。还可结合几种分离技术,例如洗涤和干燥。
干燥在于将挥发性的化合物置于温度和压力条件下以促进它们的解吸附。因此,可优选在比化合物的化学分解温度低的温度下使用部分真空,所述温度和压力条件更具体地为低于200℃的温度和100Pa~200Pa的压力。
为加速挥发性化合物的这种提取,还可以从第一过滤相开始。可在例如搅拌下进行最终干燥相,以得到非聚集的CNT粉末,这在本发明的范围之外。
在不具有热处理的方法的情况下,并且如果单体为丙烯酸,则纯化/分离步骤可由用含水醇溶液且更具体地用50%含水乙醇溶液的洗涤组成。
根据本发明的复合材料可有利地代替通常使用的用于含水溶液的粘度增强剂和/或增稠剂。
更具体而言,本发明涉及上述复合材料作为粘度增强剂在工业领域,例如尤其是造纸领域(并且特别是用于对纸进行涂布和用于使纸增重)、在石油领域、或者在涂料领域、水处理、清洁剂、陶瓷、水泥、水硬性粘合剂、公共建设工程、油墨、清漆和织物上浆领域中的用途。
本发明还涉及包含上述作为粘度增强剂使用的复合材料的含水分散体。分散体中复合材料的重量百分比为0.1~10%、优选为0.1~5%并且更优选为0.1~3%。
根据本发明的含水分散体由于存在碳纳米管而具有高的粘度和随时间推移的高的稳定性。即使长期暴露于高温(尤其是高于150℃的温度)下,它们也不发生化学降解,并且它们仍保持高的粘度。它们还具有非常高的剪切力耐受性。此外,它们对多价金属离子很不敏感,并且非常地耐氧和二氧化碳,并且它们在盐的存在下也是稳定的。
本发明不限于由水和上述复合材料组成的含水分散体,还涉及尤其是包含无机盐和任选的一种或者多种水混溶性有机溶剂的含水溶液。所述分散体还可含有其它组分,例如增塑剂、抗絮凝剂、消泡剂、腐蚀抑制剂等。
下列实施例说明本发明,然而不限制其范围。
实施例
图1-3显示在50℃下,下述实施例1-3中每一个的含水分散体的粘度随剪切速率的变化。
粘度使用SR200流变仪以Couette形状测量。
所使用的碳纳米管通过CVD方法、通过使乙烯在650℃-700℃下在负载有氧化铝的铁催化剂上分解而获得。这些纳米管为多壁纳米管,并且外径为约10~30nm且氧化铁和氧化铝形式的无机物杂质的总含量为6.4%。
在实施例1中,所测试的分散体为含有2重量%的被聚丙烯酸(PAA)接枝的CNT复合材料的含水(蒸馏水)溶液,所述聚丙烯酸(PAA)通过使丙烯酸聚合而获得。所述聚丙烯酸具有约5000g/mol的数均分子量(Mn)和1.4的多分散指数。CNT/PAA重量比约为30/70。因此,所获得的含水悬浮液的CNT含量约为6000ppm。图1对应于实施例1的分散体。
在实施例2中,所测试的分散体为含有1重量%的被PAA-PMA(中和的聚丙烯酸/聚丙烯酸甲酯)嵌段共聚物接枝的CNT复合材料的含水(蒸馏水)溶液。PAA嵌段具有约5000g/mol的数均分子量和1.4的多分散指数,并且PMA嵌段具有约10000g/mol的数均分子量。CNT/PAA-PMA重量比约为10/90。因此,所获得的含水悬浮液的CNT含量约为1000ppm。图2对应于实施例2的分散体。
在实施例3中,所测试的分散体为在通过受控自由基聚合方法获得的PAA的存在下的含有1重量%CNT复合材料的含水(蒸馏水)溶液,所述PAA正吸附在CNT上。
通过受控自由基聚合方法获得的聚丙烯酸(PAA)具有约10000g/mol的数均分子量和1.3的多分散指数,在室温下将该聚丙烯酸(PAA)的含水溶液添加到CNT粉末中并且机械搅拌30分钟。CNT/PAA重量比约为30/70。因此,所获得的含水悬浮液的CNT含量约为3000ppm。图3对应于实施例3的分散体。
这三个实施例表明,向含水蒸馏水溶液中添加以亲水性聚合物进行表面改性的或者与亲水性聚合物混合的CNT可显著增加溶液的粘度。具体而言,水在50℃下具有0.7cP的粘度。

1.基于碳纳米管的复合材料作为含水溶液用粘度增强剂的用途,所述复合材料包含碳纳米管(CNT)和至少一种亲水性(共)聚合物。
2.权利要求1的复合材料用途,特征在于所述(共)聚合物以不可逆方式吸附和/或接枝在所述CNT的表面上。
3.前述权利要求中任一项的复合材料用途,特征在于所述CNT/亲水性(共)聚合物质量比为1~99%、优选为5~50%并且更优选为5~35%。

11.权利要求1-8中任一项的复合材料用途,特征在于所述复合材料是通过将CNT与单体、单体共混物、在溶剂中的一种或者多种单体的溶液或者溶解在一种或者多种单体中的一种或者多种聚合物接触/或将CNT分散在单体、单体共混物、在溶剂中的一种或者多种单体的溶液或者溶解在一种或者多种单体中的一种或者多种聚合物中而获得的。
12.权利要求1-8中任一项的复合材料用途,特征在于所述复合材料是通过将CNT与粉末形式的单体或者聚合物接触/或将CNT分散在粉末形式的单体或聚合物中而获得的。
13.前述权利要求中任一项的复合材料在选自石油领域、或者涂料、水处理、清洁剂、陶瓷、水泥、水硬性粘合剂、公共建设工程、油墨、清漆和织物上浆领域的工业领域中的用途。
14.权利要求1-12中任一项的复合材料在造纸领域对纸进行涂布和/或使纸增重中的用途。
