Description

Additional patent subordinate to main patent No. 172922. Gear change mechanism, in particular applicable to a bicycle. The object of the invention is a gear change mechanism according to the claim of the main patent.

The gear change mechanism according to the present invention is of the type where the change wheels carried by a countershaft are always engaged with the wheels of the crankshaft, which mounted idle, can be connected with this shaft by couplings. unidirectional action born by a slider moved in a slot of the crankshaft by a swivel lever.

This mechanism is characterized in that the slider actuating lever is mounted on the countershaft and can rotate in only one direction, a stopper preventing it from rotating in the opposite direction.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.

Fig. 1 shows the speed change position of the mentioned components which are enclosed in a cylindrical box fitted in the frame of the bicycle, and FIGS. 2 and 3 two inactive positions of these.

The device actuating the slider of the balance which moves the coupling pawls is in principle the. same as that described in the main patent.

The actuating lever 21 of the slider 17 is mounted directly on the countershaft It has a bevelled end. The lever 21 can rotate against the action of a spring 22 in the direction indicated by the arrows in FIGS. 2 and 3. In the opposite direction, it is prevented from rotating by a boss 40 integral with the cover 3 of the gearbox. The boss 40 is crossed by a screw 42 carrying a coil spring 41. One end of this spring 41 is fixed in a groove 43, while the other end passes through a wide slot 44 in the boss to engage. in a similar opening 45 of the lever 21. and acts on a nose 21 'of the lever 21.

By this, it is slightly raised as shown in fig. 2 which is the inactive position of lever 21. The operation of the device is as follows: During forward travel, the slider 17 alternately bumps with its two convex ends against the lever 21 (FIG. 3) and lifts it slightly. The lever 21, which is then rotated, can however make only a small stroke, the spring 22 always returning it to its initial position.

When the slider 17 is rotated in the opposite direction by backpedaling, the latter abuts against the lever 21. The curved ends of the slider and the camming surface formed by the bevel of the lever sliding one on the other cause the displacement. of the cur sor 17 and, consequently, the change of speed. The spring 41 housed in the boss 40 absorbs the shock produced by the sudden return of the lever 21 against the stop member 40. The dotted line in FIG: 1 shows the moment when the cursor hits the lever 21; the latter is pressed against the boss 40. The bevelled part of the lever brings the cursor down (as indicated by solid lines) to a position corresponding to another speed.
