Device for controlling the gear change and clutch members of a motor vehicle with handlebars. The object of the present invention is. a positive control device for the gear change and clutch members of a vehicle with a handlebar motor, for example a motorcycle or other similar vehicle.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a tube mounted rotatably on a rectilinear end of the handlebar and fitted into a tubular handle, the control of the gear change members, which is effected by rotating the tube, taking place by 'Intermediate of a mechanism comprising an or gane extending inside said end of the handlebars, and the tube further carrying a support on which is mounted a lever for controlling the clutch members.
The drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device according to the invention.
The fi-. 1 is a plan view, partially in section, of part of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same embodiment, showing other details.
Fig. 3 is a section on 3-d of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view, partially in section, of part of the second embodiment, and FIG. 5 is a section on B-B of FIG. 4. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, a tube 2 is threaded onto one of the rectilinear ends of the handlebars 1 of a motorcycle cycle, so as to be able to turn freely on this end of the handlebars. This tube 2 is fitted into a tubular handle 3 and is integral with a shaft 4 which extends inside the rectilinear end of the handlebar and which is connected by a cardan joint 5 with a shaft 6 which crosses the wall (read handlebars.
When the tube 2 is rotated on the handlebar, the movement is transmitted to the shaft 4 and to the shaft 6, which actuates, by a part of the mechanism not shown, the speed change members which are not. not my very either.
On the front end of the tube 2 is fixed a support 7 for a lever 8 for controlling the clutch members (not shown). This lever 8 pivots on a screw 9 which could be used for fixing the support 7 to the tube \? and is connected to said clutch members by a Bowden cable 1.1, the core of which is fixed at 10 to the lever. If the motorcyclist wants. perform a gear change, he first actuates Tacon's lever 8 to exert traction on the core of the cable 11 and thus to disengage it.
Without releasing the lever 8, the motorcyclist then turns the handle 3, the rotary movement of which is transmitted by the tube 2, the shaft 4 and the joint. Cardan shaft 5 to the shaft 6, the rotation of which then causes a command of the speed change members.
The second embodiment, shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, includes all the components which have been described in relation to the first embodiment. It further comprises a member 14 fixed to the handlebars 1 and provided with notches 13 in one or the other of which can engage an extension 12 of the lever S. When the lever 8 is actuated to cause the disengagement, its extension 12 comes out of the notch 13 in which it was located and it is only at this time that the motorcyclist can turn the handle 3 to actuate the gear change members.
The latter therefore cannot be actuated without the disengagement having first been effected.
