Description
近年、用いる媒体はハンディターミナル用途など小型化が進んでおり、また、ラベル、チケット用途などでは、発色感度や画質、特にバーコード読み取り適性が求められるなど、感熱記録体は優れた発色性能を求められている。さらに、例えばラベル用では屋外で使用されたり、食品用途などに使用されたりすることが多いため、雨などの水分や湿気によって画像部の判読が困難とならないこと、また、チケット用では財布などに収納されることが多いため、これらに使用される合成皮革が含有する可塑剤によって画像部の判読が困難とならないことなど、感熱記録体に対して従来では問題になっていなかった耐水性や耐可塑剤性等の保存性に関して、優れた性能が要求され始めている。
画像部の保存性を向上させる方法として、感熱記録層上に保護層を設けることは一般に知られている。しかし、感熱記録層上に保護層を設けた場合、保護層がサーマルヘッドから与えられた熱エネルギーを吸収してしまうため、発色性能、すなわち発色感度や画質が劣るという問題がある。特に、発色感度が低下して印字部と白紙部の濃淡差(コントラスト)が小さくなると、バーコードを印字した場合に、目視は可能であっても読み取り機で読み取ることができず、バーコード読み取り適性が不十分になるという問題があった。
一方、感熱記録層に特定のスルホン酸系化合物とジフェニルスルホン化合物の2種類の顕色剤を含有させることによって、画像部の保存性等を改善することが行われている(特許文献1~3等)。更に、感熱記録層や保護層に、特定のバインダーや架橋剤を使用して、感熱記録体の耐水性等を改善することも行われている(特許文献4~6等)。
しかし、発明者らの検討によれば、支持体上に順に感熱記録層及び保護層を設けた感熱記録体において、感熱記録層に特定のスルホン酸系化合物とジフェニルスルホン化合物の2種類の顕色剤を含有させると(特許文献1~3等)、白紙部の耐熱変色性とバーコード読み取り適性は改善するが、その反面、これらの顕色剤を使用することにより耐水性や印字走行性(耐スティック性)が悪化するという欠点を有していた(後記の比較例1、4、11、13等)。
そこで、本発明は、白紙部の耐熱変色性とバーコード読み取り適性に優れ、更に耐水性と印字走行性に優れた感熱記録体を提供することを目的とする。

本発明の感熱記録層は、顕色剤として下記化学式(化1)
本発明の感熱記録層が顕色剤として上記化学式(化1)で表されるスルホン酸系化合物及び上記一般式(化2)で表されるジフェニルスルホン化合物を含有すると、発色性能と白紙部の耐熱変色性が共に優れ、バーコード読み取り適性が良好である感熱記録体が得られる。
R2は、-OR5又は上記化学式(化3)で表される基を表す。
R5は、炭素数が1~4の直鎖又は分岐の飽和又は不飽和炭化水素を表す。この飽和炭化水素基としては、例えば、メチル基、エチル基、n-プロピル基、イソプロピル基、n-ブチル基、t-ブチル基、イソアミル基等が挙げられ、不飽和炭化水素基として、例えば、エテニル(ビニル基)、1-n-プロペニル、2-n-プロペニル(アリル基)、イソプロペニル、1-n-ブテン、2-n-ブテン、3-n-ブテン(ブテニル基)等が挙げられる。R5として、これらの中で、メチル基、エチル基、ビニル基、アリル基、ブテニル基が好ましく、アリル基がより好ましい。
m及びnは、それぞれ独立して、0又は1を表し、好ましくは0である。
上記化学式(化1)で表されるスルホン酸系化合物及び上記一般式(化2)で表されるジフェニルスルホン化合物を合計した含有量は、該感熱記録層中に含有させる全顕色剤(上記化学式(化1)で表されるスルホン酸系化合物及び上記一般式(化2)で表されるジフェニルスルホン化合物を含む)の好ましくは50重量%以上であり、より好ましくは90重量%以上である。
本発明で使用する架橋剤としては、ジルコニウム化合物、多価アルデヒド化合物、メチロールメラミン、メラミンホルムアルデヒド樹脂、メラミン尿素樹脂、ポリアミンエピクロロヒドリン樹脂、ポリアミドエピクロロヒドリン樹脂、過硫酸カリウム、過硫酸アンモニウム、過硫酸ソーダ、塩化第二鉄、塩化マグネシウム、ホウ砂、ホウ酸、ミョウバン、塩化アンモニウムなどが挙げられ、好ましくは、ジルコニウム化合物、多価アルデヒド化合物、メチロールメラミン、メラミンホルムアルデヒド樹脂、メラミン尿素樹脂、ポリアミンエピクロロヒドリン樹脂、ポリアミドエピクロロヒドリン樹脂、過硫酸カリウム、過硫酸アンモニウム、過硫酸ソーダ、塩化第二鉄、塩化マグネシウム、ホウ砂、ホウ酸、ミョウバン又は塩化アンモニウムであり、より好ましくはジルコニウム化合物又は多価アルデヒド化合物である。
ジルコニウム化合物としては、塩化ジルコニウム、硫酸ジルコニウム、硝酸ジルコニウム、酢酸ジルコニウム、炭酸ジルコニウム、ステアリン酸ジルコニウム、オクチル酸ジルコニウム、珪酸ジルコニウム、オキシ硝酸ジルコニウム、炭酸ジルコニウムカリウム塩、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩などが挙げられ、好ましくは塩化ジルコニウム、硫酸ジルコニウム、硝酸ジルコニウム、酢酸ジルコニウム、炭酸ジルコニウム、ステアリン酸ジルコニウム、オクチル酸ジルコニウム、珪酸ジルコニウム、オキシ硝酸ジルコニウム、炭酸ジルコニウムカリウム塩又は炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩である。またジルコニウム化合物としては水溶性のものがより好ましく、例えば、硝酸ジルコニウム、酢酸ジルコニウム、炭酸ジルコニウム、炭酸ジルコニウムカリウム塩又は炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩が更に好ましく、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩が特に好ましい。
多価アルデヒド化合物としては、グリオキザール、グルタルアルデヒド、アルデヒド澱粉などが挙げられ、好ましくは、グリオキザール、グルタルアルデヒド又はアルデヒド澱粉であり、より好ましくはグリオキザールである。
すなわち、本発明の感熱記録体は、(i) 感熱記録層が炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有し、保護層が、上記炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有する、(ii) 保護層が炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有し、感熱記録層が、上記炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有する、又は(iii) 感熱記録層及び保護層が、共に炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する、好ましくは、(iii) 感熱記録層及び保護層が、共に炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する。
また、架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する感熱記録層及び/又は保護層は、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有しないことが好ましいが、更に炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有してもよい。この場合、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤は、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外のジルコニウム化合物及び多価アルデヒド化合物から成る群から選択されることが好ましい。
架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する感熱記録層及び/又は保護層が、架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有する場合、架橋剤中の炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩の割合は、好ましくは50重量%以上、より好ましくは80重量%以上、更に好ましくは90重量%以上である。
このバインダーとしては、ポリビニルアルコール類、アクリル系樹脂、セルロース誘導体、澱粉類、スチレン-無水マレイン酸共重合体、スチレン-ブタジエン共重合体、カゼイン、アラビヤゴム、ポリ塩化ビニル、ポリ酢酸ビニル、ポリアクリルアミド、ポリアクリル酸エステル、ポリビニルブチラール、ポリスチロース及びそれらの共重合体、ポリアミド樹脂、シリコーン樹脂、石油樹脂、テルペン樹脂、ケトン樹脂、クマロン樹脂などが挙げられ、好ましくはポリビニルアルコール類、アクリル系樹脂、セルロース誘導体、澱粉類、スチレン-無水マレイン酸共重合体、スチレン-ブタジエン共重合体、カゼイン、アラビヤゴム、ポリ塩化ビニル、ポリ酢酸ビニル、ポリアクリルアミド、ポリアクリル酸エステル、ポリビニルブチラール、ポリスチロース及びそれらの共重合体、ポリアミド樹脂、シリコーン樹脂、石油樹脂、テルペン樹脂、ケトン樹脂、クマロン樹脂である。
この澱粉類としては、酸化澱粉、エーテル化澱粉、エステル化澱粉などが挙げられ、好ましくは酸化澱粉、エーテル化澱粉、エステル化澱粉である。
本発明で用いるバインダーとして、ポリビニルアルコール類(カルボキシ変性ポリビニルアルコールを除く。)とカルボキシル基含有樹脂が好ましい。更に、感熱記録層が含有するバインダーとしては、ポリビニルアルコール類がより好ましい。保護層が含有するバインダーとしては、カルボキシル基含有樹脂、又はカルボキシル基含有樹脂とポリビニルアルコール類(カルボキシ変性ポリビニルアルコールを除く。)の併用がより好ましい。
これらのバインダーは水、アルコール、ケトン類、エステル類、炭化水素などの溶剤に溶かして使用するほか、水又は他の媒体中に乳化又はペースト状に分散した状態で使用し、要求品質に応じて併用することもできる。
保護層中のバインダーの含有量(固形分)は好ましくは20重量%以上、20~80重量%程度がより好ましく、保護層が顔料を含む場合、顔料およびバインダーの含有量は、顔料100重量部に対しバインダーは固形分で30~300重量部程度が好ましい。

この下塗り層は、主としてバインダーと顔料とから成る。
下塗り層に用いるバインダーとしては、上述の感熱記録層及び保護層に使用可能なバインダーが適宜使用可能である。これらのバインダーは1種又は2種以上用いてもよい。
下塗り層中の顔料は、全固形分100重量部に対して、通常50~95重量部、好ましくは70~90重量部である。
下塗り層の塗工液には必要に応じて、分散剤、可塑剤、pH調整剤、消泡剤、保水剤、防腐剤、着色染料、紫外線防止剤等の各種助剤を適宜配合してもよい。
感熱記録層、保護層、その他の塗工層の塗工量は、要求される性能及び記録適性に従って決定され、特に限定されるものではないが、感熱記録層の一般的な塗工量は固形分で2~12g/m2程度である。また、保護層の一般的な塗工量は固形分で1~5g/m2程度である。
また、各層の塗工後にスーパーカレンダー掛けなどの平滑化処理を施すなど、感熱記録体分野における各種公知の技術を必要適宜付加することができる。
下記配合からなる配合物を攪拌分散して、下塗り層用塗工液を調製した。

支持体(坪量47g/m2の上質紙)の片面に、下塗り層用塗工液を、固形分で塗工量10.0g/m2となるようにベントブレード法で塗工した後、乾燥を行ない、下塗り層塗工紙を得た。
この下塗り層塗工紙の下塗り層上に、感熱記録層用塗工液1を、固形分で塗工量6.0g/m2となるようにロッドブレード法で塗工した後、乾燥を行い、スーパーカレンダーで平滑度が500~1000秒になるように処理して感熱記録層塗工紙を作製した。
次いで、この感熱記録層塗工紙の感熱記録層上に、保護層用塗工液1を、固形分で塗工量3.0g/m2となるように、ロッドブレード法で塗工した後、乾燥を行ない、感熱記録体を作製した。
感熱記録層用塗工液1の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液2を使用し、保護層用塗工液1の代わりに保護層用塗工液2を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。

感熱記録層用塗工液1の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液2を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。

保護層用塗工液1の代わりに保護層用塗工液3を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。

感熱記録層用塗工液1の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液2を使用し、保護層用塗工液1の代わりに保護層用塗工液3を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。

感熱記録層用塗工液1の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液2を使用し、保護層用塗工液1の代わりに保護層用塗工液4を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。
感熱記録層用塗工液1の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液7を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。

感熱記録層用塗工液7の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液8を使用し、保護層用塗工液1の代わりに保護層用塗工液4を使用した以外は実施例7と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。
感熱記録層用塗工液1の代わりに感熱記録層用塗工液3を使用し、保護層用塗工液1の代わりに保護層用塗工液5を使用した以外は実施例1と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。

感熱記録層用塗工液2の代わりに、感熱記録層用塗工液2において、顕色剤分散液(A1液)を使用せず、顕色剤分散液(A2液)の配合量を36.0部とした、感熱記録層用塗工液を使用した以外は実施例2と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。
[比較例31]
感熱記録層用塗工液2の代わりに、感熱記録層用塗工液2において、顕色剤分散液(A1液)の代わりに顕色剤分散液(A3液)を使用した感熱記録層用塗工液を使用した以外は実施例2と同様にして感熱記録体を作製した。
作製した感熱記録体について、大倉電機社製のTH-PMD(感熱記録紙印字試験機、京セラ社製サーマルヘッドを装着)を用い、印加エネルギー0.35mJ/dot、印字速度50mm/secで市松模様を印字した。印字部の印字濃度をマクベス濃度計(RD-914、アンバーフィルター使用)で測定し、発色性能を評価した。
作製した感熱記録体について、80℃の環境下で24時間処理した後、23℃、50%RH環境下に3時間静置した。
非印字部(白紙部)の濃度をマクベス濃度計(RD-914、アンバーフィルター使用)で測定し、処理前後の値の差から地色発色値を算出し、非印字部(白紙部)の耐熱性を下記の基準で評価した。評価は優、良であれば実用上問題はない。
地色発色値=(処理後の非印字部の濃度)-(処理前の非印字部の濃度)
優:地色発色値が0.1未満
良:地色発色値が0.1以上0.3未満
可:地色発色値が0.3以上0.5未満
不可:地色発色値が0.5以上
作製した感熱記録体について、80℃の環境下で24時間処理した後、23℃、50%RH環境下に3時間静置した。
ゼブラ社製ラベルプリンタ140XiIIIを用い、印字レベル+20、印字速度10.1cm/秒(4インチ/秒)でバーコード(CODE39)を印字した後、印字されたバーコードをバーコード検証機(Honeywell社製、QCPC600、光源640nm)で評価した。評価結果をANSI規格のシンボルグレードで記した。
シンボルグレード:バーコードをバーと垂直方向に10分割して、各箇所1回ずつ読み取り試験を実施し、その平均値を(優)A、B、C、D、F(劣)の5段階評価で表す。評価はA、Bであれば実用上問題はない。
作製した感熱記録体について、印字試験機(キヤノン社製、プレアHT180)を用い、0℃の環境下で印加エネルギー0.20mJ/dotで幅7.5cm×長さ10cmのベタ印字した。この時の印字状態について、下記の基準で評価した。
記録体の最表層が印字試験機のヘッドに粘着(スティッキング)して、部分的に印字できないことを「白飛び」という。評価は優、良であれば実用上問題はない。
優:ベタ印字部に白飛びが発生しない。
良:ベタ印字部に僅かに白飛びが発生する(1~5箇所)。
可:ベタ印字部に白飛びが発生する(6~10箇所)。
不可:ベタ印字部に白飛びが頻発する(11箇所以上)。
作製した感熱記録体について、大倉電機社製のTH-PMD(感熱記録紙印字試験機、京セラ社製サーマルヘッドを装着)を用い、印加エネルギー0.35mJ/dot、印字速度50mm/secで市松模様を印字した。
印字サンプルを温水(水道水、40℃)にどぶ漬けし、24時間後に水中から取り出して風乾した。
風乾後の印字部の濃度をマクベス濃度計(RD-914、アンバーフィルター使用)で測定し、処理前後の値の差から残存率を算出し、耐水性を下記の基準で評価した。評価は優、良であれば実用上問題はない。
残存率=(処理後の印字部の濃度)/(処理前の印字部の濃度)×100(%)
優:残存率が80%以上。
良:残存率が60%以上80%未満。
可:残存率が40%以上60%未満。
不可:残存率が40%未満。
そこで、感熱記録層及び保護層の両方に架橋剤を含有させると、白紙部の耐熱変色性とバーコード読み取り適性を適正な範囲に保ちながら、耐水性や印字走行性(耐スティック性)を多少改善することができる(比較例1、4、11、13等に対する比較例9、10、18、19)。
更に、感熱記録層及び保護層の両方に架橋剤を含有させ、感熱記録層と保護層の少なくとも一方に架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有させると、これらの性能が更にバランスよく改善される(比較例9、10、18、19に対する実施例1~12)。
一方、このような架橋剤を含有させるだけで、顕色剤について配慮しないと、耐水性や印字走行性(耐スティック性)は優れるが、感熱記録体の白紙部の耐熱変色性とバーコード読み取り適性が劣る(比較例20~31)。
そのため、感熱記録層に顕色剤として本発明で使用するスルホン酸系化合物及びジフェニルスルホン化合物の2種類を組み合わせて含有させ、更に、感熱記録層及び保護層が共に架橋剤を含有し、感熱記録層及び保護層の少なくとも一方が、架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する場合には、白紙部の耐熱変色性とバーコード読み取り適性に優れると共に、耐水性と印字走行性に優れることができる(比較例20及び21に対する実施例1及び7、比較例22及び23に対する実施例2及び8、比較例24及び25に対する実施例7、比較例26及び27に対する実施例8、比較例28及び29に対する実施例1、比較例30及び31に対する実施例2)。
更に、感熱記録層及び保護層の両方に架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有させると、これらの性能が一層バランスよく改善される(実施例1、2、4、7、8、10に対する実施例3、5、6、9、11、12)。
Claims (13)
- 支持体上に無色ないし淡色の電子供与性ロイコ染料と電子受容性顕色剤とを含有する感熱記録層及び該感熱記録層上に保護層を設けた感熱記録体であって、該感熱記録層が、電子受容性顕色剤として
(i)下記化学式(化1)
(ii)下記一般式(化2)
- 前記ジフェニルスルホン化合物が4-ヒドロキシ-4'-アリルオキシジフェニルスルホンである請求項2に記載の感熱記録体。
- 前記感熱記録層及び前記保護層が、架橋剤として炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する請求項1~4のいずれか一項に記載の感熱記録体。
- 炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有しない感熱記録層又は保護層が、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外のジルコニウム化合物及び多価アルデヒド化合物から成る群から選択される架橋剤を含有する請求項1~4のいずれか一項に記載の感熱記録体。
- 炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する感熱記録層及び/又は保護層が、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有しない請求項1~6のいずれか一項に記載の感熱記録体。
- 炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩を含有する感熱記録層及び/又は保護層が、更に炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤を含有し、該炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外の架橋剤が、炭酸ジルコニウムアンモニウム塩以外のジルコニウム化合物及び多価アルデヒド化合物から成る群から選択される請求項1~6のいずれか一項に記載の感熱記録体。
- 前記感熱記録層及び前記保護層が、更にバインダーを含有する請求項1~8のいずれか一項に記載の感熱記録体。
- 前記感熱記録層がバインダーとしてポリビニルアルコール類を含有する請求項9に記載の感熱記録体。
- 前記保護層がバインダーとしてカルボキシル基含有樹脂を含有する請求項9又は10に記載の感熱記録体。
- 前記カルボキシル基含有樹脂がアクリル系樹脂である請求項11に記載の感熱記録体。
- 前記カルボキシル基含有樹脂がカルボキシ変性ポリビニルアルコールである請求項11に記載の感熱記録体。
