ムを楽しむことができるビデオゲーム機を提供するこ
と。 【構成】 プレーヤは右手及び左手で第1,第2操作部
12,14を操作し、ゲーム用移動体の第1推進部及び
第2推進部の第1、第2の推進ベクトルを入力する。操
舵情報演算部30は、前記第1及び第2の推進ベクトル
に基づき、前記第1及び第2の推進部を備えたゲーム用
移動体が、どの方向にどの様に回転しながら移動してい
くかを、推進方向情報及び回転方向情報として演算し、
操舵信号として出力する。ゲーム演算部40は、前記操
舵信号に基づき、ゲーム用移動体が所定のゲーム空間内
を移動するようにゲーム演算を行い、ディスプレイ44
上に表示する。
Description
にディスプレイ上に表示される移動体がプレーヤの操舵
に従って所定のゲーム空間内を移動するように形成され
たビデオゲーム装置に関する。
ーム用移動体が所定のゲーム空間内を移動するよう、ゲ
ーム演算を行い、ディスプレイ上に表示するビデオゲー
ム装置が知られている。
用移動体の種類に応じた操舵装置が用いられている。例
えば、移動体が自動車等の車両である場合にはハンドル
が用いられ、また飛行機やヘリコプター等である場合に
は操舵レバー等が用いられる。
ゲーム空間内における移動体の動きが制約され、ゲーム
としての面白みにかけるという問題があった。
000内に二人のプレーヤが運転する戦車1110、1
112を登場させ、これら両戦車が障害物1114を避
けながらゲーム空間内を動き回り、敵の戦車に照準を合
わせこれを攻撃するというビデオゲームを考える。この
場合、従来のゲーム装置では、プレーヤの操縦に従って
戦車1110、1112は前進、後退、旋回運動しか出
来ないため、相手方戦車に対する攻撃パターンや、相手
方戦車からの攻撃に対する防衛パターンが限定されたも
のとなってしまい、ゲームとしての面白みに欠け、飽き
られやすいという問題があった。

わかっている場合でも、プレーヤは自機の戦車1110
を旋回させながら所定の位置1110Bまで移動させな
ければ、相手方戦車1112を攻撃することが出来な
い。このため、旋回の途中の位置、例えば1110Aの
位置で相手方からの攻撃を受け、やられてしまう場合が
多かった。

ったため、ゲーム自体が単調になり易く、スピード感に
欠け、プレーヤにとって飽きられやすかった。

でが幅広くゲームを楽しめることが重要な要素であり、
複雑な操舵を必要とするゲーム機は業務用として不適当
であった。

移動体を任意の方向に移動、回転させるよう形成された
ことを特徴とする。

により、前記移動体を操舵し、前記ゲーム空間内で前記
移動体を任意の方向に移動、回転させながら前記敵又は
標的に照準を合わせるよう形成されたことを特徴とす

向へ向けた回転力を与え、かつ移動体に旋回運動又はそ
の場での回転運動をさせることができる。例えば、一方
の操舵部を前に、他方の操舵部を後に操作すると、移動
体はその場で転回するように動作し、また、一方の操舵
部のみを前方向に操作すると移動体はその推進ベクトル
に応じた半径で旋回運動することになる。
ヤの右手及び左手の組み合わせ操作により、移動体に複
雑な運動をさせることができ、特に移動体の第1、第2
の推進部の推進ベクトルを、第1及び第2の操舵部の操
作方向によって入力するという構成としたことにより、
人間の動こうとする感覚に近い操作により、移動体を移
動させることが出来るため、初心者でも操縦に早く馴れ
ることができる。
操舵部の簡単な操作により移動体に複雑な動きをさせる
ことが出来るため、ゲーム空間内に登場する敵や標的に
対する攻撃や、敵からの攻撃に対する防御を、自分の操
縦する移動体を前進、後退、旋回あるいは平行移動とい
ったような複雑な動きをさせながら行うことができる。
従って、シューティングゲーム、特にプレーヤ対戦型の
シューティングゲームなどを行う場合には、いろいろな
戦略を組み立てることができ、ゲームが変化に富み、面
白いものとなる。
詳細に説明する。(1)第1実施例 図2には、本発明に係るビデオゲーム装置の好適な一例
が示され、実施例のゲーム装置10は、プレーヤ50の
前面に位置するディスプレイ44と、前記ディスプレイ
44を見ながらプレーヤ50の操作する操作部11とを
有する。

デスマッチゲーム形式でチャンピオンを決定する。各フ
ァイターは、それぞれの所有する未来戦車により、チャ
ンピオンを競い合うわけである。そして、プレーヤ50
は、これらのファイターの1人としてゲームに参加す
る。

制限に発射することが出来るマシンガンと、数に制限は
あるが強力な武器であるミサイル発射用の各トリガーボ
タン22,24が各操舵レバー12、14に設けられて
いる。ディスプレイ44上には、その中央にプレーヤ5
0の操縦する未来戦車500と、その照準510とが映
し出され、プレーヤは照準510を用いて敵に対する攻
撃を行う。さらに、ディスプレイ44には、標的である
敵の位置を表示する敵位置レーダー520が映し出さ
れ、これによりプレーヤ50は、自機位置522に対す
る敵位置524を知ることが可能となる。

ゲームフィールド60の四方は、各ファイターが逃げ出

また、この低地64の中央付近には、その周囲が斜面6
8、70、72、74により形成された第1の大地66
が設けられている。更に、この第1の大地66の上面に
は第2、第3の大地76、78が設けられ、また、障害
物80、82も設けられている。

の第1の大地66上で対峙している。図3では、未来戦
車500Aと敵未来戦車500Bとの間には、第2、第
3の大地76、78、障害物80、82が介在している
ため、プレーヤ50は、ディスプレイ44により敵未来
戦車500Bを目視することはできない。従って、プレ
ーヤ50は、まず、前記した敵位置検出レーダー520
により敵位置52を見つけ出す。そして、操舵レバー1
2、14により未来戦車500Aを操縦し、第2、第3
の大地76、78を乗り越え、障害物80、82を避
け、敵に接近し、これを攻撃することになる。
来戦車500Aが敵未来戦車500Bに接近した場合に
ディスプレイ44に映し出される疑似3次元ゲーム画像
56Aが示されている。ここで、シールド表示部512
には、自機及び敵未来戦車500A、500Bのシール
ド量が表示される。現在、自機のシールド量(防御力)
は、敵未来戦車500Bのシールド量を大きく上回って
いる。従って、プレーヤ50にとっては攻撃のチャンス
であり、逆に、敵未来戦車500Bの方は、この危機的
状況を回避して、シールド量を回復するアイテムを探し
出さなければならない。
未来戦車500Bとが動き回るプレーフィールド60内
には、大地66、76、78や、障害物80、82、及
び拡大地の周囲を取り巻く斜面68、70、72、74
とが形成されているため、各戦車の間には高低差が生じ
たり、障害物が存在したりする。したがって、プレーヤ
50は自機の未来戦車500Aを、このような地理的条
件を利用しながら操縦し、うまく敵を攻撃出来るように
ゲーム設定する必要がある。また、逆に敵未来戦車50
0Bはこの地理的条件をうまく利用してこの危機的情況
を回避できるようにゲーム設定すれば、ゲームの面白み
を一段と高めることが出来る。

ヤ50Aはディスプレイ44Aを見ながら未来戦車50
0を操縦し、プレーヤ50Bはディスプレイ44Bを見
ながら未来戦車500Bを操縦することになる。そし
て、ディスプレイ44Aには、図4(A)に示すよう、
未来戦車500Aの後方視点から見える疑似3次元ゲー
ム画像56Aが映し出され、ディスプレイ44Bには、
図4(B)に示すよう、未来戦車500Bの後方視点か
ら見える疑似3次元ゲーム画像56Bが映し出されるこ
とになる。そして、このように1つの仮想3次元ゲーム
空間内で、異なった視点からの疑似3次元ゲーム画像を
見ながら、異なった地理的条件の下で、2人のプレーヤ
がゲームを行うことになる。なお、図5には、2人プレ
ーヤの場合しか示されていないが、本発明は、これに限
らず、3人以上の複数のプレーヤによりゲームを行う場
合にも当然に適用できる。

れを対応する推進部502、504の第1推進ベクトル
情報及び第2推進ベクトル情報として操舵情報演算部3
0へ向け出力する。

示すよう、斜め方向に倒すと、その方向に向け、未来戦
車500を平行移動させるように操舵信号を出力する。

異なる場合には、その操作に応じて未来戦車500が回
転または旋回するよう操舵信号が出力される。例えば、
図9(a)、(b)に示すよう、左右の操舵レバー1
2、14を前後逆に同じ量だけ操作すると、未来戦車5
00はその場所で右回転又は左回転するよう、角速度信
号VΘ0 が操舵信号として出力される。なお、この場合
には、未来戦車自体はその位置を移動しないので、
VX0、VY0はそれぞれ0に設定される。

る。また、例えば左右の操舵レバー12、14を、同方

ることになる。

を攻撃し、逃げ去るというヒット・アウト・アウェイ戦
法を取ることができる。さらに、500A−1、−2に
示すよう、敵の未来戦車500Bに対し、照準を定めな
がらの円弧状の平行移動をさせることもできる。このと
き、敵の未来戦車500Bは、旋回運動を利用すること
により、図11に示す如く、逃げる敵を追尾するように

に示すように、未来戦車500Aと敵未来戦車500b
との間に第1、第2の台地76、78が介在して、自機
から敵が見えない位置からでも、例えば放物線軌道をも
つ長距離砲により敵を攻撃することが可能となる。これ
により、3次元地形により敵から見えない死角の位置か
ら敵を攻撃でき、ゲームの面白味を一段と高めることが
できる。

画像合成部200により、変形した敵未来戦車を映し出
すことができる。

方向が異なる複数の疑似3次元ゲーム画像を形成できる
ことになる。そして、この異なる視点位置、視点方向か
ら見た疑似3次元画像を、それぞれのプレーヤのCRT
に表示することで、図17に示すように複数台の画像合
成部、ゲーム空間演算部を設けなくても、3次元ゲーム
装置を実現できることになる。(3)第3実施例 (頭部装着体を使用した実施例) 3−1:頭部装着体 本実施例に係る3次元ゲーム装置は、例えばプレーヤが
頭部装着体を装着しゲームを行う構成とすることもでき
る。

プレーヤの3次元情報が検出されることとなる。
信号発生器による3次元情報の検出方法としては、上記
の動磁界を利用したものに限らず、例えば、静磁界を利
用したもの、超音波、赤外線を利用したものを用いても
よい。

ムデータ内に含ませる。

る。そして、例えば左側駆動部632、右側駆動部63
4はプレーヤ650の操舵レバー640、641の操作
により自在に操舵されるように形成されている。そし
て、後述するように、プレーヤ650は映像カメラ61
0によりこれらの動きの変化を見ることができることと
なる。
燃料計、警告計(図示せず)を含んでおり、プレーヤ6
50の運転状態により変化するように構成されている。
即ち、プレーヤ650の操舵レバー640、641への
操作に応じて、スピードメータが変化し、また、ゲーム
終番になり燃料が尽きてくると燃料計がこれを示すよう
に構成される。更に、未来戦車630のエンジン等にト
ラブルが生じると警告計が点滅し、プレーヤ650は映
像カメラ610によりこれを知ることができる。
御部624が設けられ、ゲームフィールド60の地形情
報、プレーヤ650の操作信号に応じて、未来戦車63
0の姿勢変化、加速変化が制御される。これにより、姿
勢制御部624は、例えば図21(b)に示す斜面75
を未来戦車630が通過した場合には、この斜面の角度
に応じた姿勢の制御を行うことになる。この結果、より
現実世界に近づいた仮想世界を体験できる。また、未来
戦車630が通過した地形ブロックが砂利道であった場
合は、これに応じて姿勢制御部624は、細かな振動を
発生させることができる。これらの姿勢制御は、ゲーム
空間演算部100により行われ、制御するための情報
は、前述した地形情報記憶部106に格納された地形情
報を用いて生成する。これにより、前述した実施例のよ
うに地形情報を疑似3次元画像に反映するのみならず、
姿勢制御にもこの地形情報を反映させることができ、ゲ
ームの面白味を格段に向上させることができる。

の頭部装着体608の構成は、図18(c)、(d)に
示すように、図18(a)、(b)に示した頭部装着体
609に対して、映像カメラ610が新たに加わった構
成となっている。

とができる。この場合、例えばドーム1には主にプレー
ヤ650から見える背景が、フロア4には、未来戦車6
30が走っているゲームフィールド60の路面状況が映
し出される。

成装置680、姿勢制御部624が加わった構成となっ
ている。従って、空間センサ612、空間センサ用信号
発生器613、座標抽出部682によりプレーヤ650
の3次元情報を抽出し、これによりプレーヤ650から
見える仮想視界画像702が画像形成部240から出力
される。
界画像702と、映像カメラ610で撮像された実空間
映像700との画像合成が行われる。この画像合成の手
法としては種々の手法が考えられるが、本実施例では例
えばブルーマット合成による手法によってこれを行って
いる。図22には、この場合の表示画像合成装置680
の構成の詳細が示されている。
から入力された実空間映像700を表す画像信号は、表
示画像合成装置680内においてまずフィルター900
に通されRGBの3原色の成分に分けられる。そして、
これらの成分のそれぞれが例えば8ビットのデジタルデ
ータに、A/D変換回路902にてA/D変換され、こ
れにより各画素毎に24ビットのRGBデジタルデータ
が求められる。そして、この実空間映像700における
各画素の24ビットのRGBデジタルデータが、ドーム
1の裏側及びフロア4に塗られたブルーの色の24ビッ
トのRGBデジタルデータと一致するか否かが、空きド
ット判定回路904にて各画素毎に演算され、判断され
る。そして、この判断結果は、空きドットメモリ906
に書き込まれる。空きドットメモリ906は、表示画像
の全ての画素に対応した1ビットメモリの構成となって
おり、各画素毎に空きドットか否かの空きドット判定デ
ータが1ビットデータとして書き込まれる。
各画素に対応したフィールドバッファ910が内蔵され
ている。そして、データ制御部908により、空きドッ
トメモリ906に書き込まれている空きドット判定デー
タが参照され、フィールドバッファ910の各画素位置
に実空間映像が書き込まれる。即ち、空きドット判定デ
ータにより、その画素が空きドットであると判断された
場合は、フィールドバッファ910のその画素位置に
は、実空間映像は書き込まれない。逆に、空きドット判
定データにより、その画素が空きドットではないと判断
された場合には、実空間映像の24ビットのRGBデジ
タルデータがそのまま書き込まれることとなる。

ータが参照され、フィールドバッファ910の各画素位
置に、画像形成部240により演算された仮想視界画像
情報が重ね書きされる。即ち、空きドット判定データに
より、その画素が空きドットであると判断された場合
は、仮想視界画像情報がそのまま書き込まれる。逆に、
空きドット判定データにより、その画素が空きドットで
はないと判断された場合には、なにも書き込まれず、こ
の画素位置には実空間映像が表示されることとなる。
部908によりフィールドバッファ910から各画素位
置の画像情報データが読み出される。そして、この画像
情報データは接続線618を通して画像表示装置620
に画像出力され、プレーヤ650は、実空間映像700
に仮想視界画像702が組み込まれた表示画像704を
リアルタイムに見ることができることとなる。

空間内で未来戦車630を自由自在に操縦することがで

実に近い仮想現実世界を表現できることとなる。

色を用いて画像合成したり、種々の手法を用いることが

プログラム等が記憶されるものであり、例えば不揮発性
メモリで形成され、地形情報記憶部106、オブジェク

んで構成される。また、補助処理演算部410は、操舵
情報演算部30、画像供給部212、画像形成部24
0、オブジェクト情報変更部108、制御部214を含
んで構成される。更に、第2の記憶部490は書換え可
能なメモリで構成されている。

の後、この記憶された画像情報は、映像処理部404、
必要に応じてビデオRAM406を介して映像出力され
る。
例えば画像合成の手法を変更する場合、高価なゲーム機
本体400をほとんど変更する必要がなく、ゲーム用カ
ートリッジ401の補助演算処理部410の演算処理を
変更するだけで対応できることとなる。
部および第2操舵部として図2に示すような操舵レバー
を用いる場合を例にとり説明したが、本発明はこれに限
らず、例えば図24に示すような構成のものを用いても
よい。例えば、操作部本体上に右手親指操作用の十字ボ
タン12と、左手親指操作用の十字14とをそれぞれ第
1および第2の操舵部として設け、移動体の第1および
第2の推進ベクトルを入力するようにしてもよい。さら
に操作部本体の側面に、右手および左手各人差し指で操
作する操作ボタン22,24を、マシンガン用およびミ
サイル用の各トリガボタンとして設けてもよい。このよ
うに、第1および第2の操舵部、攻撃用操作ボタンの構
成は、必要に応じて各種形態のものを採用することがで
きる。
ビデオゲームに適用した場合を例にとり説明したが、本
発明はこれに限らずこれら以外の各種ゲーム、例えば3
次元ゲーム空間として設定された複雑な迷路等を、プレ
ーヤが移動体を操縦しながらくぐり抜けるなどといった
ようなゲームに対しても適用可能であることはいうまで
もない。
るゲームのみならず、例えば高さ等を足踏みペダル等で
調整しながら、移動体を3次元的に操縦するタイプのゲ
ームにも適用することができる。
プレーヤが操縦するゲーム用移動体に、360°の範囲
で推進する第1の推進および第2の推進部を設け、前記
第1の推進部の推進ベクトルをプレーヤの右手により操
作する第1操舵部から入力し、前記第2の推進部の推進
ベクトルをプレーヤの左手で操作する第2操舵部から入
力し、前記第1および第2の推進部の推進ベクトルから
移動体の移動方向情報および回転方向情報を演算すると
いう構成としたことにより、簡単かつ自然な操作で移動
体を全方向に直進または平行移動させ、しかも必要に応
じて回転または旋回運動をさせる事ができる。これによ
り、初心者から上級者まで、移動体を簡単に操縦し、ス
ピーディで変化に富むビデオゲームを楽しむことができ
る。

動体を操縦できるため、初心者も移動体の操縦に簡単に
馴れ親しむことができる。従って、初めてのゲームでは
常に問題となる操作の馴れを最低限の時間で済ませるこ
とができ、初心者でも、すぐにゲームそのものを楽しむ
ことができるという効果があり、とりわけ業務用のビデ
オゲームとして好適なものとなる。

Claims (5)
- 【請求項1】 360度の範囲で推進する第1の推進部
及び第2の推進部を有するゲーム用移動体をプレイヤー
が操舵するよう形成された操舵手段と、 前記操舵装置から出力される操舵信号に基づき、前記ゲ
ーム用移動体が所定のゲーム空間内を移動するようゲー
ム演算を行い、ディスプレイ上に表示するゲーム演算手
段と、 を含み、 前記操舵手段は、 プレーヤの右手の操作により、その操作方向に応じて前
記第1の推進部の第1の推進ベクトルを360度の範囲
で入力する第1操舵部と、 プレーヤの左手の操作により、その操作方向に応じて前
記第2の推進部の第2の推進ベクトルを360度の範囲
で入力する第2操舵部と、 前記第1の推進ベクトル、第2の推進ベクトルに基づ
き、前記移動体の推進方向情報及び回転方向情報を演算
し操舵信号として出力する操舵情報演算部と、 を含み、プレーヤの右手及び左手の組み合わせ操作によ
り、前記移動体を操舵し、前記ゲーム空間内で前記移動
体を任意の方向に移動、回転させるよう形成されたこと
を特徴とするビデオゲーム装置。 - 【請求項2】 360度の範囲で推進する第1の推進部
及び第2の推進部を有するゲーム用移動体をプレイヤー
が操舵するよう形成された操舵手段と、 敵または標的を攻撃するためプレーヤが操作するうよう
形成された攻撃用操作手段と、 前記操舵装置から出力される操舵信号に基づき、所定の
ゲーム空間内において前記ゲーム用移動体を移動させ、
かつ前記攻撃用操作手段から出力される操作信号に基づ
き敵又は標的を攻撃するようゲーム演算を行い、ディス
プレイ上に表示するゲーム演算手段と、 を含み、 前記操舵手段は、 プレーヤの右手の操作により、その操作方向に応じて前
記第1の推進部の第1の推進ベクトルを360度の範囲
で入力する第1操舵部と、 プレーヤの左手の操作により、その操作方向に応じて前
記第2の推進部の第2の推進ベクトルを360度の範囲
で入力する第2操舵部と、 前記第1の推進ベクトル、第2の推進ベクトルに基づ
き、前記移動体の推進方向情報及び回転方向情報を演算
し操舵信号として出力する操舵情報演算部と、 を含み、プレーヤの右手及び左手の組み合わせ操作によ
り、前記移動体を操舵し、前記ゲーム空間内で前記移動
体を任意の方向に移動、回転させながら前記敵又は標的
に照準を合わせるよう形成されたことを特徴とするビデ
オゲーム装置。 - 【請求項3】 請求項1,2のいずれかにおいて、 前記操舵情報演算部は、 前記第1の推進ベクトル、第2の推進ベクトルに基づ
き、前記移動体の推進方向情報を演算する方向演算部
と、 前記第1の推進ベクトル、第2の推進ベクトルに基づ
き、前記移動体の回転情報を演算する方向演算部と、 を含むことを特徴とするビデオゲーム装置。 - 【請求項4】 請求項1〜3のいずれかにおいて、 前記操舵情報演算部は、 前記第1の推進ベクトル、第2の推進ベクトルに基づ
き、前記推進方向情報として推進方向及び推進力を演算
するとともに、前記回転情報として回転方向及び回転力
を演算することを特徴とするビデオゲーム装置。 - 【請求項5】 請求項1〜4のいずれかにおいて、 前記第1および第2の操舵部は、 操作量に応じて第1および第2の推進部の推進力をアナ
ログ入力するよう形成されたことを特徴とするビデオゲ
ーム装置。
