Description
本発明の実施態様は、一般式M1-xEuxAlyO1+3y/2[式中、Mは、Ba、Sr、Ca、Mg、Mn、Zu、Cu、Cd、SmおよびTmからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも一つの2価金属であり、0.1<x<0.9かつ0.5≦y≦12である]で示される、アルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体を対象とする。本発明の一実施態様では、Mは、M’Mgで表される場合がある。もう一つの実施態様では、0.3≦x≦0.6である。本実施態様のアルミン酸塩を基にした蛍光体は、約280〜420nmの範囲の波長の放射を吸収し、500〜550nm、515〜530nmおよび518〜520nmの範囲の波長の可視光を放出するように構成されている。これらのアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は、ピーク波長が、いくつかの実施態様では約80nm以下の、またその他の実施態様では約40nm以下の半値全幅を有する、可視光を発する場合がある。
本発明の実施態様は、一般的には、新規なアルミン酸塩緑色蛍光体(本明細書では緑色蛍光体と呼ぶ)を対象とする。本実施態様の新規なアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は、様々なディスプレイの用途に特に役立つ。これらのディスプレイの用途は、液晶ディスプレイ(LCD)、プラズマディスプレイパネル(PDP)および陰極線管(CRT)ディスプレイでのバックライティングを非限定的に包含する。加えて、それらは、孤立したいかなる緑色LEDの使用、たとえば装飾光、看板灯、信号灯および指示標識にも適用可能であり、白色光照明系にも有用である場合がある。
本発明の実施態様によれば、アルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は、式M1-xEuxAlyO1+3y/2[式中、Mは、Ba、Sr、Ca、Mg、Mn、Zu、Cu、Cd、SmおよびTmからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも一つの2価金属である]を有する。2価アルカリ土類金属およびユウロピウムの相対含量は、0.1<x<0.9によって表される。蛍光体に対するホストとして働くアルミン酸塩の種類は、化学量論0.5<y<12によって表される。本発明の実施態様によれば、蛍光体を活性化するために、高められたユウロピウム含量が存在する;すなわち、以下に考察するとおり、先行技術における組成物より高められた含量が存在する。本発明のアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体の新規な特徴は、ユウロピウム含量が約0.3重量%より多いことであって、その計算は、組成物中の2価アルカリ土類元素に対するユウロピウムの総重量の関数として、ユウロピウム含量についてされる。
本発明のアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は、異なる様々なアルミン酸塩構造に基づいてもよい。本発明の一実施態様では、新規なアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は、式M1-xEuxAlyO1+3y/2を有していて;yは、AlおよびOの相対含量を変化させて、ホストのアルミン酸塩構造に影響を及ぼすことの効果を示す。式のこの表示では、yの値は、0.5以上、かつ12以下である。この実験は、2価アルカリ土類元素に対するアルミニウムの比を変化させることと同等であることに留意されたい。
一般に、本発明のアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は、約420nmより長い波長を有する励起放射に特別に高感度ではないが、本発明者らが同時に開発したケイ酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体は高感度である。本発明の実施態様によれば、近UVないし青色発光LEDは、電磁スペクトルの実質的に不可視の部分である光、たとえば約420nmまでの波長を有する放射を放出する。そのようなLEDは、その接合が420nmおよびそれ以下の放出波長を有する、適切なII−V、II−VIまたはIV−IV半導体の層化に基づくいかなる半導体ダイオードも含んでもよい。たとえば、このLEDは、GaN、ZnSeまたはSiC半導体に基づく少なくとも一つの半導体層を含有してもよい。LEDは、望みであれば、一つ以上の量子井戸を活性領域に含有してもよい。好ましくは、LEDの活性領域は、GaN、AlGaNおよび/またはInGaN半導体層を含むp−n接合を含んでもよい。このp−n接合は、ドーピングされていない薄いInGaN層、または一つ以上のInGaN量子井戸によって隔離されてもよい。LEDは、300〜420nm、好ましくは340〜405nmの放出波長を有してもよい。たとえば、LEDは、以下の波長を有してもよい:350、355、360、365、370、380、390または405。
当技術に公知の多くの青色蛍光体は、本発明のアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体と結合して用いて、RGBバックライティングディスプレイを構成してもよい。2価ユウロピウムで活性化されるバリウム−マグネシウム−アルミン酸塩(BAM)蛍光体は、本発明のRGBバックライティングを用途とするアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体と結合して用いてもよい。本発明の緑色蛍光体とともに用いてもよいBAM蛍光体の例は、米国特許第4,110,660号明細書に開示されていて、BaF2、LiF、Al(OH)3およびEu2O3を含有する混合物が、水素雰囲気中、約760〜899℃(1,400〜1,650°F)の範囲の温度で3〜6時間焼成される。本発明の緑色蛍光体とともに用いてもよい公知のもう一つの青色蛍光体は、K. Takahashiへの米国特許第4,161,457号明細書に記載されている。この特定の蛍光体は、式aMgO.bBaO.cAl2O3.dEuO[式中、a、b、cおよびdは、条件a+b+c+d=10を満足する数であり、0<a≦2.00;0.25≦b≦2.00;6.0≦c≦8.5;0.05≦d≦0.30である]で表される。当然、当業者には、K. Takahashiのそれに類似するその他多くの青色蛍光体組成物を本発明の緑色蛍光体とともに用いてもよいことが認識されよう。
本実施態様の緑色蛍光体は、白色LEDの一部を構成してもよい。そのような系には、一つ以上の放射源を用いてもよい。たとえば、近UVまたは実質的に不可視の放射源を用いて、上に記載された本発明のアルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体を励起してもよく、この同じか、または第二の放射源を用いて、赤、青、青緑もしくは黄色の蛍光体のいずれか(組合せてか、または単独の)を励起してもよい。赤、青、青緑または黄色蛍光体のいずれか、もしくはすべてを励起するために、第二の放射源は、約380〜420nmで放射する、近UVと異なる、実質的に不可視の放射源であってもよいか、あるいは、同様に赤、青、青緑または黄色蛍光体のいずれか、もしくはすべてを励起するのに、400nmおよびそれより長い波長を放射する青色LEDであってもよい。たとえば、第二の放射源は、約410〜500nmの範囲の波長を有する放射を放出してもよい。いずれにせよ、緑色蛍光体は、不可視放射源からの放射の少なくとも一部を吸収し、約500〜550nmの範囲の波長にピーク放出強度を有する光を放出するように構成される。
本発明の実施態様の新規アルミン酸塩を基にした蛍光体を製作する方法は、いかなる一つの製作方法にも限定されないが、たとえば、(1)出発材料を混合すること;(2)出発材料混合物を焼成すること;および(3)焼成された材料に対して、微粉化および乾燥をはじめとする様々な加工を実行することを包含する3工程法で製作してもよい。出発材料は、様々な種類の粉末、たとえばアルカリ土類金属化合物、アルミニウム化合物およびユウロピウム化合物を含んでいてもよい。アルカリ土類金属化合物の例は、アルカリ土類金属の炭酸塩、硝酸塩、水酸化物、酸化物、シュウ酸塩およびハロゲン化物を包含する。アルミニウム含有化合物の例は、その硝酸塩、フッ化物および酸化物を包含する。ユウロピウム化合物の例は、酸化ユウロピウム、フッ化ユウロピウムおよび塩化ユウロピウムを包含する。
(a)Ba(NO3)2、Mg(NO3)2、Mn(NO3)2、Al(NO3)3およびEu2O3からなる群より選ばれる原料を供給する工程;
(b)Eu2O3を20%硝酸溶液に溶解し、次いで、望みの量の金属硝酸塩を混合して、酸塩水溶液を形成する工程;
(c)硝酸塩溶液にアンモニウムを加え、硝酸塩溶液のpHを約8の値に調整する工程;
(d)工程(c)の溶液を加熱して、ゲルを形成する工程;
(e)工程(d)のゲルを約700℃に加熱して、硝酸塩混合物を酸化物混合物に分解する工程;
(f)工程(e)の酸化物混合物を、ボールミル内で約0.05モルまたは6重量%のAlF3・3H2Oと混合して、粉末を形成する工程;
(g)工程(f)の粉末を、N2中約5%のH2の雰囲気中、1,500℃で約6時間焼結する工程。
色の質は、異なる数多くの格付け体系によって測定することができる。色度は、色相および彩度によって色を定義する。CIEは、国際照明委員会(Commission International de l'Eclairage)によって開発された色度座標系である。CIE色度座標は、「1931CIE」色空間内で色を定義する座標である。これらの座標は、x、y、zとして定義され、三つの三刺激値の合計に対する三つの標準的原色X、Y、Z(三刺激値)の比である。CIE表は、三刺激値のその合計に対するx、y、zなる比のプロットを含む。減算した座標x、y、zの合計が1になる状況では、代表的には、二次元のCIE(x、y)プロットが用いられる。
Claims (14)
- 式M 1-x-w Mg w Eu x Al y O 1+3y/2
[式中、
Mは、Ba、Ca、MnおよびZnからなる群より選ばれる一つの2価金属であり、
0.1<x<0.9、
0.5≦y≦12かつ
0<w<1である]で示される、アルミン酸塩を基にした緑色蛍光体であって、蛍光体が280〜420nmの範囲の波長の放射を吸収し、500〜550nmの範囲の波長を有する可視光を放出するように構成された、蛍光体。 - 0.3≦x≦0.6である、請求項1記載の緑色蛍光体。
- 515〜530nmの範囲のピーク波長を有する可視光を放出する、請求項1または2記載の緑色蛍光体。
- 40nm以下の半値全幅を有するピーク波長の可視光を放出する、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体。
- MがMnであるときに、蛍光体の式がMn1-x-wMgwEuxAlyO1+3y/2である、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体。
- 蛍光体の式がMn0.5-wMgwEu0.5AlyO1+3y/2であって、0.0<w≦0.5かつ2≦y≦5である、請求項5記載の緑色蛍光体。
- 蛍光体の式がMn0.5-wMgwEu0.5AlyO1+3y/2であって、w=0.25かつ2≦y≦5である、請求項5記載の緑色蛍光体。
- 蛍光体の式がMn0.5-wMgwEu0.5Al3.5O6.25となるように、y=3.5である、請求項5記載の緑色蛍光体。
- 緑色蛍光体を基にしたLEDであって、
280〜420nmの範囲の波長を有する放射を放出するように構成された放射源と;
放射源からの放射の少なくとも一部を吸収し、500〜550nmの範囲の波長にピーク強度を有する緑色光を放出するように構成された、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体と
を含むLED。 - RGBバックライトディスプレイ、テレビジョン、モニタ、携帯電話、PDA、ナビゲーションディスプレイ、ゲーム、装飾光および信号からなる群より選ばれる、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体を含む表示装置。
- 410〜500nmの範囲の波長を有する放射を放出するように構成された放射源と;
放射源からの放射の少なくとも一部を吸収し、500〜550nmの範囲の波長にピーク強度を有する光を放出するように構成された、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体と;
放射源からの放射の少なくとも一部を吸収し、530〜590nmの範囲の波長にピーク強度を有する光を放出するように構成された黄色蛍光体と
を含む白色LED。 - 410〜500nmの範囲の波長を有する放射を放出するように構成された放射源と;
放射源からの放射の少なくとも一部を吸収し、500〜550nmの範囲の波長にピーク強度を有する光を放出するように構成された、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体と;
CaS:Eu2+、SrS:Eu2+、MgO*MgF*GeO:Mn4+およびMxSiyNz:Eu2+[式中、Mは、Ca、Sr、BaおよびZnからなる群より選ばれ、Z=2/3x+4/3yである]からなる群より選ばれ、放射源からの放射の少なくとも一部を吸収し、590〜690nmの範囲の波長にピーク強度を有する光を放出するように構成された赤色蛍光体と
を含む白色LED。 - MがBaまたはMnである、請求項1記載の緑色蛍光体を製造する方法であって、
(a)Ba(NO3)2 またはMn(NO 3 ) 2 、Mg(NO3)2、Al(NO3)3およびEu2O3 である原料を供給する工程と;
(b)Eu2O3を20%硝酸溶液に溶解し、次いで、所望の量の金属硝酸塩を混合して、硝酸塩水溶液を形成する工程と;
(c)硝酸塩溶液にアンモニウムを加え、硝酸塩溶液のpHを8の値に調整する工程と;
(d)工程(c)の溶液を加熱して、ゲルを形成する工程と;
(e)工程(d)のゲルを700℃に加熱して、硝酸塩混合物を酸化物混合物に分解する工程と;
(f)工程(e)の酸化物混合物を、ボールミル内で6重量%のAlF3・3H2Oと混合して、粉末を形成する工程と;
(g)工程(f)の粉末を、N2中5%のH2の雰囲気中、1500℃で6時間焼結する工程と
を含む方法。 - 請求項1〜8のいずれか1項記載の緑色蛍光体を含む、プラズマディスプレイパネル(PDP)。
