Description
段階(A)では、水を含むポリマー粉末を押出機に導入するが、この押出機は次のものを有している。
(i)粉末搬送セクション、
(ii)粉末搬送セクションの下流に位置する粉末シールセクション、
(iii)粉末シールセクションの下流に位置する混練・溶融セクション、及び
(iv)混練・溶融セクションの下流に位置する真空ベント。
段階(B)では、ポリマー粉末を、粉末シールセクションを通して搬送する。
段階(C)では、混練・溶融セクションでポリマー粉末を加熱・剪断して水を含むポリマーメルトを形成する。
段階(D)では、ポリマーメルトを真空ベントで真空脱気に付す。
実施例1〜4及び比較例1〜3では、3つの真空ベント及び1つの大気ベントを有するWerner & Pfleiderer製58mm同方向回転噛合10バレル二軸押出機(ZSK−58 Mega Compounder)を使用した。ZSK−58 Mega Compounderのように高い比トルク及び高い能力で作動させることができる押出機を使用して粉末シールを創成することができる。この押出機は、11のバレルシャフトを受け入れるために10のバレルとスペーサーを有するように構成されていた。バレル1は6直径の供給バレルであり、ここに湿ポリカーボネート粉末を供給した。安定剤、及び適宜カラーコンセントレートは、ZSB−40側方供給器を介してバレル7に導入した。バレル3(13〜16直径の間に位置する)は、ベントスタッファーを介して大気圧で脱気した。バレル5及び6(21〜28直径の間に位置する)並びにバレル9(37〜40直径の間に位置する)には真空ベントを設けた。下流のベントから出る蒸気は熱交換器を用いて凝縮させた。
重量平均分子量が約55000ダルトン(ゲルパーミエーションクロマトグラフィーでポリスチレン標準に対して測定)で、7重量%の水と100ppmの塩化メチレンを含有する湿ビスフェノールAポリカーボネート粉末と、約0.3重量%の水を含有し、約38500ダルトンの重量平均分子量(ゲルパーミエーションクロマトグラフィーでポリスチレン標準に対して測定)を有する乾燥ビスフェノールAポリカーボネート粉末とを、湿樹脂対乾燥樹脂の重量比を65:35、全スループット率を1500ポンド/時とし、その他は実施例2同様に装備し作動させた58mm同方向回転噛合10バレル二軸押出機に供給した。スクリュー速度は800rpm、トルクは利用可能な最大トルクの85%とした。サイドスタッファーを介して安定剤コンセントレートをバレル7に添加した。作動は極めて安定であり、バレル3のベント又は供給口で蒸気は観察されず、供給の問題もなかった。
実施例6〜11及び比較例4〜9では、特に断らない限り実施例2と同様に装備し作動させた58mm同方向回転噛合10バレル二軸押出機を使用した。この押出機を約500rpm、最大トルクの約85%で作動させた。スループット率はポリマー約1000〜約1200ポンド/時であった。
約25000ダルトンの重量平均分子量(ゲルパーミエーションクロマトグラフィーでポリスチレン標準に対して決定)を有し、10重量%の水と100ppmの塩化メチレンを含有する湿ビスフェノールAポリカーボネート粉末1111ポンドを、約25000ダルトンの重量平均分子量(ゲルパーミエーションクロマトグラフィーでポリスチレン標準に対して決定)を有する乾燥1,1−ビス−(4−ヒドロキシ−3−メチル)シクロヘキサンポリカーボネート(BCCポリカーボネート)粉末1000ポンドと混合し、この混合物を、粉末として、実施例1と同様に装備し作動させた58mm同方向回転噛合10バレル二軸押出機に供給する。この混合物を最大スループット約1030ポンド/時、約600rpmで押し出す。利用可能な最大トルク利用率は約70〜約95%の範囲である。ビスフェノールAポリカーボネート及びBCCポリカーボネートからなるポリカーボネートブレンドが生成し、このブレンドは0.5重量%未満の水と1ppm未満の塩化メチレンを含んでおり、Tgは132〜140℃である。
Claims (9)
- ポリマー粉末から水及び揮発性成分を除去する方法であって、
(A)(i)粉末搬送セクションと、
(ii)前記粉末搬送セクションの下流に位置する粉末シールセクションと、
(iii)前記粉末シールセクションの下流に位置する混練・溶融セクションと、
(iv)前記混練・溶融セクションの下流に位置する真空ベントと
を有する押出機に、1〜20重量%の水を含むポリマー粉末を導入する段階、
(B)前記ポリマー粉末を、粉末シールを形成するのに充分な供給速度及びスクリュー速度で、粉末シールセクションを通して搬送する段階、
(C)前記混練・溶融セクションで前記ポリマー粉末を加熱・剪断して水を含むポリマーメルトを形成する段階、
(D)前記ポリマーメルトを前記真空ベントで、1〜500トルの圧力下、真空脱気に付す段階
を含んでなる方法。 - 前記ポリマー粉末が、ポリカーボネート、ポリフェニレンエーテル、ポリアミド、ポリエステル、ポリイミド、ポリエーテルイミド、ポリエーテルスルホン、オレフィンポリマー及びこれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記水を含むポリマー粉末がさらに1種以上の揮発性有機化合物を含んでおり、揮発性有機化合物が1種以上の溶媒からなる、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記ポリマー粉末が0.001〜5重量%の1種以上の有機溶媒を含んでいる、請求項3記載の方法。
- 前記押出機が同方向回転二軸押出機である、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記押出機を、加熱ゾーンの設定温度を100〜400℃の温度範囲にして作動させる、請求項1記載の方法。
- 段階(C)が、200〜450℃の範囲の温度にポリマーメルトを加熱することを含んでなる、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記押出機がさらに1以上の追加の真空ベントを有する、請求項1記載の方法。
- ビスフェノールAポリカーボネート粉末から水及び塩化メチレンを除去する方法であって、
(A)(i)粉末搬送セクションと、
(ii)前記粉末搬送セクションの下流に位置する粉末シールセクションと、
(iii)前記粉末シールセクションの下流に位置する混練・溶融セクションと、
(iv)前記混練・溶融セクションの下流に位置する真空ベントと
を有する押出機に1〜20重量%の水及び塩化メチレンを含むビスフェノールAポリカーボネート粉末を導入する段階、
(B)前記ビスフェノールAポリカーボネートを、粉末シールを形成するのに充分な供給速度及びスクリュー速度で、粉末シールセクションを通して搬送する段階、
(C)前記混練・溶融セクションで前記ビスフェノールAポリカーボネート粉末を加熱・剪断して、水及び塩化メチレンを含むポリマーメルトを形成する段階、
(D)前記ポリマーメルトを前記真空ベントで、1〜500トルの圧力下、真空脱気に付す段階
を含んでなる方法。
