Abstract
Description
本発明は、リチウム−硫黄電池に関する。より具体的に、本発明は、硫黄を含む正極及び分離膜の間に電解液を含む高分子不織布をさらに含むリチウム−硫黄電池に関する。
リチウム−硫黄電池は、S−S結合(Sulfur−sulfur bond)を有する硫黄系物質を正極活物質として使用し、リチウム金属を負極活物質として使用する二次電池であって、正極活物質の主材料である硫黄は、資源がとても豊富で、毒性がなく、原子当たり重さが低いという長所がある。
また、このような従来技術は、リチウム−硫黄電池の容量特性と寿命特性を大きく改善できない問題点があった。
したがって、本発明の目的は、リチウム−硫黄電池を提供することである。
前記正極と分離膜の間に介在される高分子不織布をさらに含むことを特徴とするリチウム−硫黄電池を提供する。
前記正極は、集電体上に形成された正極活物質層を含み、
前記正極活物質層の表面は、非水系電解液を含む高分子フィルムで被覆されていて、前記正極活物質層内の空隙は、前記非水系電解液を含む高分子物質で充填されていて、
前記正極と分離膜の間には高分子不織布をさらに含むことを特徴とするリチウム−硫黄電池を提供する。

前記正極と分離膜の間に介在される高分子不織布をさらに含むことを特徴とするリチウム−硫黄電池を提供する。
本明細書において、「ポリスルフィド」は「ポリスルフィドイオン(Sx 2−、x=8、6、4、2))」及び「リチウムポリスルフィド(Li2SxまたはLiSx −x=8、6、4、2)」を全て含む概念である。
本発明において、高分子不織布は正極と分離膜の間に介在され、ポリスルフィドを閉じこめられるバッファー層の役割をする。すなわち、一般分離膜より気孔度が大きい不織布は電解液を多量含むことができるし、これによって正極の方のポリスルフィドの濃度が希釈されて、ポリスルフィドの拡散現象が抑制される。したがって、正極活物質の損失が減少され、ポリスルフィドの溶解による電解液粘度の上昇によって発生する過電圧現象を防止することができる。
これと逆に、高分子不織布が負極と分離膜の間に介在される場合、上述したポリスルフィドの湧出抑制効果を期待することができないし、むしろ電極表面で電流密度が高くなってリチウムデンドライトの成長を図ることができる。
また、前記高分子不織布は、耐久性を確保するために電解液に対する耐腐食性に優れ、電解液による膨張(swelling)現象が少なく、寸法安定性に優れるものが好ましい。
本発明において、前記高分子不織布の厚さは10ないし25μmであることが好ましい。
この時、前記気孔度(porosity)は気孔率ともいい、多孔性物質の全体体積に対して気孔が占める体積の割合を意味する。気孔度は、下記数式1で計算することができる。

含浸量(重量%)=M2/(M1+M2)×100
(前記数式2において、M1は高分子不織布の重量で、M2は電解液の重量である)
本発明によるリチウム−硫黄電池の正極は、正極集電体上に形成された正極活物質を含む。
前記正極集電体としては、技術分野において集電体として使用できるものであれば、いずれも可能であり、具体的に優れた導電性を有する発泡アルミニウム、発泡ニッケルなどを使用することが好ましい。
集電体上に形成された正極活物質層を形成して正極を製造し、正極活物質層上に前記高分子フィルム及び前記高分子物質を形成するための組成物をコーティングする。この時、前記正極活物質層の空隙内にも前記組成物が浸透できるようにする。前記コーティング方法は、ディップコーティング、ローラーコーティング、スピンコーティング、真空含浸などが使用されてもよいが、これに制限されない。
本発明によるリチウム−硫黄電池の負極は、負極集電体上に形成された負極活物質を含む。
前記負極集電体は、具体的に銅、ステンレススチール、チタン、銀、パラジウム、ニッケル、これらの合金及びこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択されるものであってもよい。前記ステンレススチールは、カーボン、ニッケル、チタンまたは銀で表面処理されてもよく、前記合金としては、アルミニウム−カドミウム合金が使用されてもよい。それ以外も焼成炭素、導電材で表面処理された非伝導性高分子、または伝導性高分子などが使用されてもよい。
本発明によるリチウム−硫黄電池の電解液は、リチウム塩を含む非水系電解液としてリチウム塩と溶媒で構成される。
前記リチウム塩は、非水系有機溶媒に溶解され易い物質として、例えば、LiCl、LiBr、LiI、LiClO4、LiBF4、LiB10Cl10、LiB(Ph)4、LiC4BO8、LiPF6、LiCF3SO3、LiCF3CO2、LiAsF6、LiSbF6、LiAlCl4、LiSO3CH3、LiSO3CF3、LiSCN、LiC(CF3SO2)3、LiN(CF3SO2)2、LiN(C2F5SO2)2、LiN(SO2F)2、クロロボランリチウム、低級脂肪族カルボン酸リチウム、テトラフェニルホウ酸リチウム及びリチウムイミドからなる群から一つ以上であってもよい。
本発明によるリチウム−硫黄電池の分離膜は、電極を物理的に分離する機能を有する物理的な分離膜であって、通常の分離膜として使用されるものであれば、特に制限されずに使用可能であり、特に電解液のイオン移動に対して低抵抗でありながら電解液含湿能に優れるものが好ましい。
製造例1:リチウム−硫黄電池の製造
下記製造方法によって正極と分離膜の間に高分子不織布を含むか、または含まないリチウム−硫黄電池を製造した。
(1)実施例1:ポリイミド(PI)不織布を含むリチウム−硫黄電池の製造
水を溶媒にし、硫黄、スーパー−ピー(Super−P、SP)、導電材及びバインダーをボールミルで混合して正極活物質層形成用組成物を製造した。この時、導電材としてはデンカブラックを、バインダーとしてはSBRとCMCの混合形態のバインダーを使用し、混合の割合は重量比で硫黄及びSP(9:1割合):導電材:バインダーが90:10:10となるようにした。製造した正極活物質層形成用組成物をアルミニウム集電体に塗布した後、乾燥して正極を製造した(正極のエネルギー密度:2.5mAh/cm2)。
分離膜と正極の間に厚さ20μm、気孔度72%のPAN不織布を介在させたことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法でリチウム−硫黄電池を製造した。
実施例1と同様の方法によって、PI不織布を含まないリチウム−硫黄電池を製造した。
PI不織布の代わりに気孔度45%のPE分離膜を介在したことを除いて、実施例1と同様の方法でリチウム−硫黄電池を製造した。
前記実施例1、2及び比較例1、2で使用したPI不織布、PAN不織布、及びPE分離膜の気孔度及び電解液含浸量を下記表1に示す。
前記製造例1で製造された各電池に対して電池性能評価を行った。この時、各電池は0.1Cで2.5回充放電した後、0.3C充電/0.5C放電で駆動条件を設定した。
図1に初期放電プロファイルを示した。図1を参照すれば、バッファー層がない比較例1に比べて実施例1及び2の初期放電容量に優れ、放電過電圧は低いことを確認することができる。特に、PI不織布を使用した実施例1がPAN不織布を使用した実施例2に比べて良い結果を示した。一方、比較例2のデータを参考すれば、PE分離膜をもう一つ介在させた場合、初期放電容量が多少上昇するが、本発明の高分子不織布に比べてはその効果が微細であることを確認できる。
Claims (10)
- 正極;負極;分離膜;及び電解液を含み、
前記正極と分離膜の間に介在される高分子不織布をさらに含むことを特徴とするリチウム−硫黄電池。 - 前記高分子不織布の材質は、ポリイミド、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリエチレンオキシド、ポリエチレンテレフタレート、ポリビニルアルコール、ポリアクリロニトリル及びポリウレタンからなる群から選択される1種以上であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。
- 前記高分子不織布の厚さは、10ないし25μmであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。
- 前記高分子不織布は、下記数式1で表される気孔度が60ないし80%であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。

気孔度(%)={1−(高分子不織布の密度/原料高分子の密度)}×100 - 前記高分子不織布は、引張強度が10ないし200MPaであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。
- 前記高分子不織布は、下記数式2で表される電解液含浸量が150ないし350%であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。

(前記数式2において、M1は高分子不織布の重量で、M2は電解液の重量である) - 前記高分子不織布は、重量平均分子量100,000ないし6,000,000g/molの高分子からなることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。
- 前記高分子不織布は、直径100ないし400nmの高分子繊維からなることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。
- 前記正極は、集電体上に形成された正極活物質層を含み、
前記正極活物質層の表面は、非水系電解液を含む高分子フィルムで被覆されていて、前記正極活物質層内の空隙は、前記非水系電解液を含む高分子物質で充填されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。 - 前記高分子フィルム及び前記高分子物質は、アクリルアミド、ジビニルベンゼン、ブチルアクリレート、ヘキシルアクリレート、トリメチロールプロパントリアクリレート、ブタンジオールジアクリレート、ブタンジオールジメタクリレート、ジアルリルスクシネート、ジアルリルマレート、ジアルリルスベレート、エチレングリコールジアクリレート、エチレングリコールジメタクリレート、エチレングリコールジビニルエーテル、トリテトラエチレンジメチルアクリレート(TTEGDA)、ポリ(エチレングリコール)ジアクリレート(PEGDA)、ポリエチレングリコールジメタクリレート(PEGDMA)、ポリ(エチレングリコール)ジビニルエーテル、及びジグリシジルエステルからなる群から選択された少なくとも一つ以上のモノマー及び前記非水系電解液を含む組成物が重合されて形成されたことを特徴とする請求項9に記載のリチウム−硫黄電池。
