Abstract

696,220. Lamp holders. ASHLEY ACCESSORIES, Ltd. June 11, 1951 [June 9, 1950], No. 14412/50. Class 38 (i). A holder for a double-ended lamp permits removal or replacement of the lamp by manipulation of only one of the pair of holders. The holder comprises an open topped insulating body 10 pivotally mounted by projections 25 thereon engaging bayonet slots 26 in the arms 27 of a bracket 28, the body slidably housing a socket member 12 having finger-gripping lugs 13 extending through slots 14 in the body and controlled by springs 19. The springs 19 surround extensions 18 of contact plungers 16 which have a clearance 17 between themselves and the socket 12, and are connected by terminals 21 to the supply. A pair of straight slots 22 in the socket co-operates with the bayonet lamp cap pins to align the lamp. To remove a lamp it is pushed towards the " far " holder A, Fig. 4, against the springs 19 and the socket 12 of the " near " holder B is retracted by pulling the lugs 13, the holder B then being swung downwardly away from the lamp which may then be removed from the holder A. The holders are automatically returned by an abutment 30 therein co-operating with a leafspring 29 on the bracket. In a modification, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the leaf-springs 29 are replaced by coil springs surrounding the projections 25 and the bayonet slots 26 are replaced by simple holes. In a further modification, Figs. 8-10 (not shown), the springs 29 and lugs 13 are omitted and pivotal movement of the body 10 about the projections 25 is limited by a rib on the top of the body engaging the underside of the bracket 28. In this construction, lamp removal is effected by pushing the lamp a small distance into the " far " holder to disengage the projections 25 on the " near " holder from the bayonet slots 26 thereby removing one lamp end together with its holder. This holder is then taken off the lamp and the lamp removed from the " far " holder. This manner of removal permits the two holders to be .mounted closer together.
