Abstract

576,706. Lamp-holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., JENKINS, H. G., and MILES, E. E. July 25, 1944, No. 14221. [Class 38 (i)] In a lamp-holder having a pair of spaced sockets adapted to carry a tubular lamp between them, and wherein the lamp is inserted by bodily movement perpendicular to its axis followed by rotation about its axis, each socket is provided with a member 10 mounted so as to be rotatable about the axis of the lamp and projecting parallel to this axis, so that it may support the lamp cap. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, when the lamp is inserted the member 10 is first swung aside so that the lamp's contact pins 12, held so as to be in a vertical plane, may pass through a slot 9 while the lamp is moved bodily upwards. The upward movement continues till the upper pin 12 has passed through a slot 8 in a fixed boss 6, after which the lamp is rotated about the boss 6 through 90‹, so that resilient contact fingers 3 bear on the pins 12. The member 10 is then swung back to support the weight of the lamp. The support member 10 is resilient and may be fitted with a part-circular spring clip adapted to engage a circumferential groove in the lamp cap, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). In an alternative socket, Fig. 6, the support member 26 is secured by studs 27 to a slotted rotatable plug 16, and its end 29 engages an earthed contact plate 30 fixed in the socket body 19. Specifications 526,713 and 541,556 are referred to.
