Abstract

292,836. Rogge, B. Nov. 8, 1927. Battery lamps.-In a portable electric lamp the reflector, or the top cap, or both, are directly connected to the switch member so as to be moved with it with respect to a stationary incandescent bulb to vary the illumination. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the top cap 4 carrying a lens 5 is fitted with a strip 7 which is resiliently slipped over the switch knob 6 and the reflector 10 is fixed. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the reflector 10 is fixed to the contact spring 8 of the knob 6 and the top cap may carry a lens or a plane glass. In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the reflector 10 is fixed to the top cap 4 which carries a lens 5 or a plane glass and is provided with a bayonet slot 11 for engaging over the knob 6. The shank 12 of the knob 6 is provided with a collar 12<1> capable of engaging a recess 14 at the end of the transverse arm of the slot 11, and which may be pushed into a recess 14<1> in the casing 1. This allows the cap to be removed only when the lamp is switched off. Fig. 8 shows a slight modification in which the lens 5 has an octagonal flange fitting into an octagonal flange 23 on the lens cap 4 which is secured to the casing 1 by means of a spring-pressed pin 20 engaging a slot 19 in an apron 18 depending from the cap. Fig. 11 shows a stand or bicycle lamp in which the switch member is in the form of a nut 6<1> engaging a screwed spindle 14 connected to the reflector 10. A rail contact is carried by a cylinder 16 at the rear of the reflector and engages a spring contact fixed to an internal partition 17.
