Abstract
187,602. Hutchings, E. W. Oct. 18, 1921, [Convention date]. Holders. - A locking- device which only allows removal of the lamp cap from the bayonet holder by smashing the glass consists of a sleeve or collar provided with an internally threaded head for engaging the threaded portion of the holder and with locking means which allow the sieeve to be screwed down on to the lamp but which engage the lamp pins and prevent movement when an attempt is made to screw the sleeve upwards. In the form shown, the sleeve 6 is screwed on to the holder at 8 and has an internal spring 9 which rides over the bayonet pins 4 when the sleeve is screwed downwards until it bears on the lamp at 7. Any attempt to screw the sleeve upwards, in order to allow the lamp to be pressed into the holder prior to removal from the bayonet slots, results in the spring binding on one of the pins 4 and preventing the sleeve 6 from being turned. Fracture of the bulb allows the sleeve to be screwed off from the holder, from which the cap may then be removed freely. The sleeve 6 may be provided with a shoulder for supporting a shade.
