Abstract

419,444. Coking processes. MORGAN, J. S., Rodridge Hall, near Wingate, Co. Durham. April 8, 1933, No. 10534. [Class 55 (i).] In the destructive distillation of coal by mixing therewith incandescent coke, the latter is obtained from a chain grate fed with coal or coke, and run faster than usual. Hot coke from a hopper 10 is mixed with coal in a distillation and mixing chamber 3, and the resultant coke is fed to a chain grate 5 running faster than usual. The hot coke is discharged into a hopper 6, and is blown by gas from a jet 7 through a pipe 9 into the hopper 10. If air is used in the jet 7, combustion occurs in the pipe 9, and if steam is used, water gas is obtained, the gases passing by a pipe 12 to the grate 5. Oil may be injected on to the hot coke to enrich the water gas.
