Abstract

Producers. - In a down-draught producer for use with fuels of high-volatile, content, such as wood or lignite, air is admitted through openings k and warmed by passage through an annular space j, from which it enters a shallow combustion zone x at the bottom of the fuel hopper a. When gas is drawn off from the outlet l, the main portion of the gas passes through perforations p in a grate c, impinges on a cone e and is deflected bv a cone d<1> up the inside of an upturned portion d where it is met by the hot portion of the gas passing through the slots in the portion d from the hottest part of the fire. The volatiles in the gas are cracked by contact with the hot cone e and by mixture with hot gas passing through the portion d, and the gas is purified in annular chambers o filled with filtering material. Steam may be generated in a jacket r and supplied by pipes t and v to the incoming air.
