Abstract

310,686. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 29, 1928. Addition to 214,544. Producers; water gas.-In a process for making producer gas or water gas of the kind described in the parent Specification or as modified in Specification 279,316, in which gas is blown through the ignited fuel with sufficient force to establish a strong agitation, the gasifying agent also being supplied above the fuel, an enlarged secondary gasification chamber is provided to which a further supply of a gasifying agent may be added. In the secondary gasification chamber A pipes D are provided for the gasifying agent, and the hot gases pass by a pipe B to a dust separator C. The bottom blast is blown in by a pipe E with sufficient force to keep the fuel in a state of ebullition and an incandescent dome J assists the gasification process. In a modification, Fig. 2, water gas is continuously produced from the fuel, which is heated by hollow chambers A extending through the fuel zone, and heated by combustion gases which may subsequently be used for drying the fuel, superheated steam being supplied through inlets J and below the travelling grate H.
