Steam-generator &c. furnaces.- In a steam generator or other furnace, a bed of refractory material A, such as incombustible ashes or boiler scale, is maintained incandescent by blast furnace, producer or other gas supplied by the pipe C. Pitch or pitch tar is fed on to the bed through the door E which also admits air to support the combustion of the gas and pitch.
