Coking processes. -In a process of carbonizing powdered fuel as described in the parent Specification, in which the powdered fuel is carried in a current of gas into a carbonizing-zone maintained by burning a part of the gas produced, the whole of the hot gas from the carbonizing-chamber c is passed through a heat - recuperator i and a condenser, a part of the gas being ;passed back through and heated in the upper part of the recuperator and used to blow the powdered fuel from a hopper a into the carbonizing-chamber. Some of the heated gas is used to heat the chamber c by being burned at burners d which are supplied with air heated in the lower part of the recuperator. The carbonized product collects in a hopper g.
