Abstract

269,711. Wannebo, K. N. March 16. 1926. Oil gas.-In the manufacture of gas from oil or tar by cracking in a chamber containing heatretaining material, after heating up the apparatus by burning oil or gas, oil is sprayed into the chamber through nozzles 5 and air introduced through inlets 3, the oil being gasified by passage through a heated chamber B to its outlet 7<1> from which the vapours and gases pass to a tar pot and heat exchanger 9 in which the oil is preheated. The temperature is maintained by the introduction at an inlet 3 of air which is heated by the chequerwork and then burns the carbon or lampblack deposited in the upper part of the chamber A the combustion products, mainly carbon monoxide, passing with the oil vapour to the chamber B. The addition of steam from inlet 6 forms water-gas. The direction through the chambers A and B is periodically reversed steam being blown in to displace unconsumed air before the reversal takes place.
