Abstract

Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In the dry distillation of bituminous materials the material is subjected simultaneously to the action of radiated heat from burning gases and to convection heating by a current of hot gas such as producer gas. The material is introduced through a conduit 8 into a drying-drum 5 in which it is treated by hot gases from a flue 6 and air from a pipe 7, the dried material passing through a charging-device 4 on to an endless chain 2 bv which it is moved through the chamber 1 and discharged into a producer 11. The producer gases from channels 15 and openings 14 partly pass through the charge and are led away together with the distillates through an outlet 20 and partly are burned by the admission of air through nozzles 16, thus forming a hot zone over the material, the combustion products escaping by channels 18 into the flue 6. The uncondensed gases from the outlet 20 may be added to the producer gas.
