Abstract
218,925. Rude, J. Dec. 18, 1923. Coking processes; retorts.-In coking by the heat contained in the gases from a water-gas producer, an auxiliary heated gas, for example oil gas, is passed through the coking chamber during the " blow," the water gas during the " run " being used in the same manner. In a modified process an auxiliary gas heated by the gases from the " blow " or " run " is passed uninterruptedly through the retort. During the blow," gases from the producer c, Fig. 1, pass by a flue d through a heat exchanger e and escape by a pipe g, the auxiliary gas entering by a pipe r is heated in the heater e and passes by a flue h to the retort a. During the " run," the water gas passes through the heater e and valve f which is opened directly to the retort. A sieve o on the rotary retort a separates the fine particles, which fall into a pocket p, the larger pieces being supplied to the upper part b of the producer. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 2 during the " blow " the gases are burned in heaters b and w and escape by an outlet h. Oil supplied through a pipe g is vaporized in chamber f cracked in chamber e and the hot oil gas is passed through openings n into the retort m, the mixed gases passing out through outlet o. During the run the water gas passes through a pipe u and heater b, entering the retort through pipe l and openings n. The oil gas may be supplemented by introducing another gas through a pipe r.
