Abstract

314,239. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). July 18, 1928. Addition to 214,544. Producers.-In a gasification process of the kind described in the parent Specification and modified in Specifications 279,316, 296,713, 296,751 and 310,686 in which gases are blown through small sized ignited fuel with sufficient force to establish strong agitation of the charge, the gasifying medium is preheated in refractory structures arranged over the fuel bed and heated by the waste heat of the generated producer or water gas. Hollow members C are arranged over the charge A which is introduced through a pipe K and is supplied with air or steam through conduits D, the hot gasifying media impinging from above on to the fuel bed. Part of the gasifying medium is also introduced through a pipe F. Such a preheater may also be placed in the upper part E of the producer shaft with a solid heat accumulator underneath. In each gas making period the fresh charge of coal admitted through a conduit L is allowed to descend over the heated accumulator by which it is dried and partially gasified.
