Abstract

611,607. Gas-producers; oil gas. STEINSCHLAEGER, M. July 28, 1943, No 12293. [Classes 55(i) and 55(ii)] Blue or carburetted water gas or synthesis gas is obtained by down gas making in a generator provided with a grate and a conduit between the bottom of the reaction zone and the grate for removing at least a major portion of the gas, a conduit below the grate for introducing air for blowing and removing, if desired, a minor portion of the gas, and a regenerator connected to the generator by at least one conduit. An up run may also be effected in addition to the down gas making. In a plant suitable for blue water gas manufacture, during the blow air or other oxygencontaining gas is introduced through a conduit 4 below an automatically operated grate 2 and is heated by an ash bed 1c, part of the coke &c. in an incandescent reaction zone 1a is burnt and the blow gases possibly with air supplied through a conduit 6 heat fuel in an upper zone 1b and pass to a regenerator 12, possibly with oil and air admitted through conduits 16, 17. For the down gas-making run steam or carbon dioxide after being heated in the regenerator enters the producer, with or without further steam, water, or carbon dioxide admitted through conduit 14, through one or more of conduits 6-11, and gases produced leave through conduits 26, 27, or through conduits 3, 4, cooled if necessary by injection of water, steam or oil through conduit 28. For the up-run steam or carbon dioxide is supplied through conduit 4, and gases produced leave by one or more of conduits 7-11 according to the properties required and the fuel used. Modifications include the introduction of oil, tar or hydrocarbon gases for carburetting water gas, the provision of two or divided regenerators, and the generation of oil gas by burning producer gas obtained from the generator the sensible heat of the combustion products being used to crack oil &c.
